Apparently Galliani will look to get Mandzukic in Spain and Kondogbia on the way back. I do like Kondogbia, even if I personally think Allan has more to offer this team. On Mandzukic, I really fear it's the wrong move to make. He's a great goalscorer, but I think players with different qualities are needed. Nor is he a player that will be a leader, either in the dressing room or through his technical qualities.

I still maintain my curiosity if de Sciglio could ever turn out to be an outstanding central defenders, of course we may never know if no one tried it. One thing I do feel that de Sciglio needs is mental toughness. Sometimes I wish he could be a bit more aggressive (or even, "mental" like Mexes). Kind of, it's also partly from personal experience (the Wing Chun example is one I thought of as I've spent years training in the martial art). It's not to say anything against big guys, I mean Stam was very big, but an excellent defender, while Ibra's extremely agile and quick for a guy his size.
On defending being an art in calcio, I pretty much agree. Details don't feel like they are being thought of these days as they were in the past. For example, on a basic at a tactical level, a team used to be organised to press slightly higher if the opponent with the ball was facing towards their own goal, as they wouldn't be in a position to pass in behind the defence. On an individual level, players would position themselves to productively hinder an opponents progress. For example, a guy like Robben, who plays almost completely on his left foot and will pretty much always look to cut in from the right, should be forced into an uncomfortable position by closing the angle for him to cut in and forcing him to stay wide. Doing so also means the gap between the defender and him can be closed slightly to be in a position to put in a challenge as Robben would have limited options and space. This also results in the space to get a cross in is limited as the defender is in a better position to block any attempts.
It's these details that can really make a difference. After all, if a team isn't in a position to get a meaningful cross in, then a guy like Luca Toni's physical advantage is less of a threat. Today, defending feels much more reactive and about physical dominance.
I agree about De Sciglio's "mental toughness", it's what I refer to in my posts when talking about him being more aggressive. I don't want him to be aggressive in nature though (i.e. I don't want mental Mexes episodes), it's about being aggressive in his hunger to win the ball. If you watch videos of Maldini, Baresi and Costacurta on youtube, the one common denominator is when they were defending, they showed absolute determination to make the ball theirs, which is what De Sciglio lacks. Currently, he will attempt the tackle, but he doesn't look like he's putting everything into the tackle (as though the challenge is kind of meek), while with those great defenders, they would put their body on the line to win the ball back.
I watched the 2005 CL final again the other day, Maldini was 36 and one of the most memorable moments for me in that match was even at that age he went in for a sliding challenge with no hesitation whatsoever, his sole focus in that moment was to get to the ball ahead of his opponent. It's that driving factor that was really special.
Personally, I'd love a coach to do with De Sciglio as Capello did with Ibra and just tell him to spend time watching videos of some great defenders, as Ibra watched videos of Van Basten. I think from that simple act, De Sciglio could learn a lot about what makes great defenders so great and how he can grow.

I doubt it'll make a significant difference tbh. They've already said they will be active and can sign players and then bring them in later in January. I can see that happening with Darmian, him being signed, maybe remaining with Torino for half a season and moving on in January.
Don't really get the Darmian links to Milan tbh. Just to clarify, I think he's been a completely wasted opportunity by Milan, I rated him when he was first used during Ancelotti's time and I felt he had a major future at the club until he got sold.
However, fullbacks should really be the least of the club's worries now. The team has two very good and generally reliable wingbacks in Abate and Antonelli. DES, as much as I want to see him tried at CB, will also probably remain a wingback for the foreseeable future, with the club continuing to bank on him as a starter in the near future. Then the club also has 2 very promising wingbacks coming through at Primavera in Calabria and Felicioli.
