nefremo you're right I am a big fan of Berardi. However, while I would have taken him without hesitation around a year ago (or just over), he does leave me with doubts these days. However, I have little doubts about his talent, if he can make the leap I think we're talking about a world class talent. However, it's also important for the coach to help him grow correctly. One reason he flourished under Di Francesco is he was given freedom to work as an attacker on not just operate on the right wing (something Suso tends to do too much imo).
Right now, I think my view of him is a bit like my view on Depay. In both cases I see a talented individual who has the ability to take a big step up and really become a more important player in the game. However, equally both players leave me with doubts about whether they can or will make that jump.
I agree if we get either of these guys we still need the man who can take on his man 1 v 1 and brings pace.
I know pretty much nothing on Joao Felix other than watching some Youtube videos. He does look technically outstanding though.

Lol, since the berardi rumours came out I've been pretty much obsessed with the idea. I can't shake the inkling that if he comes he'll be a star at Milan.
However, if he comes we have to use him correctly. He's a forward through and through and has to be used as such. For me, he's closer to Sheva of the late 90s (wide forward who moves in to get closer to goal) than a natural winger or creator.

I agree^ I think he should be played as a second striker with Cutrone I honestly think it will be the closest we can get to Sheva/Inzaghi if all goes well. With that being said, switching to a two striker formation would mean we'd have to restructure a few things and play the market based on those changes.
Will it be a 4-3-1-2 or a 4-4-2? I prefer a 4-4-2 personally because wide play is extremely important in modern football, but a 4-3-1-2 would be more similar to what we used to have with Kaka behind the strikers. Anyways, getting Berardi gives us the flexibility of playing numerous formations, we could even stick with a 4-3-3. He'd either be a replacement for Suso, or he'd have to adapt to a left wing role. I wouldn't rule out playing him as a sole striker if need be as well, I know it's not ideal but I do think his versatility allows for it if need be.

I'm not too concerned about recreating a Sheva - Pippo partnership, but yeah I can understand where comparisons could be drawn. With Berardi, I was thinking maybe something akin to a slightly lopsided 4-3-3 with Berardi in a more advanced position than whoever is on the left. Think of something similar to Sarri's Napoli where Insigne naturally occupies positions higher up the pitch than Callejon and often acts as a supporting striker to Mertens with Hamsik and also Ghoulam/Mario Rui pushing forward on the overlap.

Basically saying Milan haven't officially been in touch about Berardi, but hopes they can start discussions after the match tonight. Bear in mind he also added a joke in the comment hoping it would be after Berardi had a "big match".

I think we should try to add more certainty with our signings next year instead of taking on risky players. Berardi's progress has stalled for a couple of years now, and the guy has 2 goals and 2 assists in 20 something matches this year. Depay has had a myriad of issues over the years of staying focused. As talented as they are (and i have wanted both guys on this team over the years), these guys offer very little guarantee to us and has high bust potential. It might sound weird, but I would honestly rather we get Ribery over Berardi at this point in time. Next year is critical for the future of this team and we cannot afford to take on these flyer signings and then spend the entire season trying to figure out how to make them effective just to make Mirabelli look good. We need guys who can come in, fit in and do a job right away.

totally agree. mirabelli already tried this strategy last summer and it failed. most of the players he bought who have flopped all had a history of issues/injuries. E.g. RR & borini were coming off bad seasons, hakan was suspended for half a season & musacchio missed a couple of seasons due to injuries. whilst all these players were standout players in the past, this season shows that you cannot instantly resurrect somebody's career. especially in a foreign league.
even kessie & conti were risky purchases given they'd only had one successful season behind them. luckily, kessie has played pretty well and conti looked good before his injury.
that's why its imperative mirabelli listens to bonucci and all the critics from the last mercato who said milan should've just focused on a handful of top players. its no surprise that both bonucci + biglia have largely been successful purchases given they're both experienced and established players for club and country.
even sassuolo's CEO came out and admitted that berardi isn't the player he once was. apparently he's only scored 14 goals in 3 seasons!

if we fail to qualify for europe this season then mirabelli's position has to be questioned. last season we finished 6th yet after spending 240m in the summer we're still 6th! how is that even possible?!
what makes it worse is the fact that the teams above us sold their best players e.g. lazio (keita, hoedt, biglia) & roma (salah, paredes, rudiger & totti). roma also had a brand new coach just like us yet they're in the cl quarter finals.
i honestly don't trust mirabelli to rebuild the team again after he failed to build a competitive team this year. how can you play 4-3-3 regularly with only 1 recognised winger in the team? how can you leave the attack to a guy who scored no more than 15 goals in his best season, a portugese youngster and a 20yo primavera kid with no experience? it's madness. its no surprise that all the teams above us have at least one top striker e.g. higuain, mertens, icardi, dzeko, immobile. nearly all of them have won the top scorer award at some point too. mirabelli is a fool.

And that, to me, is where the strategy was weird to begin with. Very few teams in professional sports wants to build depth before quality. Usually, teams with a ton of money to spend try to instantly raise the quality level first and worry about depth later. We went the opposite direction and it can be argued that despite F&M's attempt to build depth, our depth is terrible even now. If we want to build depth, there are way easier ways to do it without spending a ton of money. There are a bunch of bosmans out there every year that can be signed for depth purposes. But, hindsight is 20/20, so that's fine. We need a clear strategy moving forward, and hopefully we can see the mistakes we made this year and alter their strategy instead of doubling down on what didn't work out the first time.
