I'm very disapointed by Colombia in this first half. They left so much space all over the place. They are playing wild football.
Zapata has already had a few of his brainfarts that he normally has for Milan. It's back to planet earth for him it seems.
Cuadrado has perhaps been the most disappointing one. He has been absolutely dreadful. Bad touches, losing the ball, stupid decisions...he did a little bit of everything except anything good.
Colombians are playing like they are scared. Panicking, rushing, making simple mistakes. I wonder if this is too big of an occasion for them? I hope not. I wanna see them play well. They need to relax, stay compact, not pay attention to the crowd, to the brazilians. Just focus, and play the game. This Brazil team is not that good...but if you lose the ball in bad places, and leave them space..they have the quality to hurt you.

Two CBs each contribute a goal. Brazil looks set for semi-final, but without Thiago Silva.
Did I speak too soon? James Rodriguez scored from the spot, and the game is back on with 10 minutes left.

Well, one semi is set with Brazil-Germany. Both teams weren't overly impressive in their quarter-final game...but they made it there so it'll be interesting.

I was disappointed with the quality of the game. Both teams seemed to be more interested in cancelling each other out, committing foul as soon as the opponent got the possession and that disrupted the flow of the play. Thiago Silva will be suspended but Brazil still have Dante and will welcome Luis Gustavo back and both have played with many players from the German team. The bigger problem is who's gonna replace Neymar.

Brazil played like Chelsea. Very physical and even violent. Fernandinho deserved at least a YC for some needless fouls against James Rodriguez.
I don't say ref favored Brazil, he was just scared of using his cards. And the result was both teams allowed to kill the match.
Sad for Neymar. Sad but still happy for James as he had 6 goals this competition. Scoring now becomes much much harder, even for Messi.
Thiago Silva doesn't enjoy his best form, so I think in a beautiful day Dante can contribute even better, but Scolari seems to prefer Henrique.
And I think Scolari still remember that Germany played without their best player, Ballack, in WC 2002 final.

Germany must be watching this match in delight, knowing Neymar and Thiago Silva are both out. That said, I'm not convinced with this German side, so I think that semi final is all about whoever copes with the pressure better, more than one side having a particular advantage over the other. That said, Brazil will surely be going into that match with more nerves than usual, given their most important players are out. Luiz Gustavo returning is huge, much more than usual.
As for last night's match, it certainly wasn't quite the thriller it was built up to be and never reached the levels of the Chile Brazil match. Brazil played and pressed as they often do, which as expected for much of the first half Columbia couldn't really cope with. In the centre, James Rodriguez struggled for space, while Sanchez looked overwhelmed in midfield with Guarin often missing.
Brazil, as they have done, got their goals on set pieces thanks to poor defending and a simply outstanding strike from David Luiz. Columbia did dominate in the second half though and to me, it looked like Brazil were physically struggling to keep up their pressing game, probably with the Chile match taking it's toll. They did enough to win, even after giving away a cheap penalty, but the way the won and the number of stoppages in the game may work in their favour, as they should be able to recover better for the semi final.
The Brazilian CBs were outstanding last night too, especially Thiago Silva (besides his moronic yellow). Goals aside, they were often exposed as the midfield was anything but stable, but their dominance was top notch.
As for the Neymar injury, I found it shocking when reading comments on news articles claiming he'd dived and such. I understand he's not exactly a player known for staying on his feet, but the foul was horrendous. His treatment in this world cup does remind me a little of Pele in '66.
Brazil, if they beat Germany are surely worthy finalists in this world cup. Their group was tough, the knockouts have been extremely tough. They've been through the wars in every match and I do admire their hunger in this tournament. Germany are a top side and maybe a step too far given the situation.

As a brazilian myself, I found it very tough to live these last few days trying to point out that Zuniga challenge on Neymar, while horrible, wasn't the only one who inherited punishment throughout the game.
Lots of my "hate" towards the brazilian national team is the nation's mentality towards the game. The catchphrase said in here that "God is brazilian" really seems to make its way through people's brains, so it's only natural that in football it should be the same.
As for the game, there's nothing much else to say. I really expect Germany to beat Brazil, because whenever teams pressed the brazilian defence, they seemed unable to cope with the pressure (especially because the lack of midfield stability, like Dev mentioned) and would eventually concede. On the other front, they could cause some damage due to Neymar set pieces and flair. Against a possession-oriented Germany side, which has lots of options from long range as well, I feel getting through is asking too much of Brazil. Let's wait and see, hoping for a great game whatever the outcome.
