To your point, the restraints definitely aren't due to Gazidis deciding how careful we need to be with money. But the concept (of budgetary restraints) is quite simple (on the surface) imo. So i'm not sure what else there could be happening.

Not sure what but it is not just a matter of reducing losses. We can't spend more because of court or other issue handicapping ownership. May be a salary cap can be explained for the 'long term' health of the team but transfer fee budget is suspiciously too low imo.

Better question, one week left and Chelsea offer 120 for Leao…. Do we give up our primary offensive weapon or hold out in hopes of a new contract? If you try to reinvest that money this summer the market will be inflated because the late timing and people know we are much wealthier. That’s is going to be a tricky question.

Anything is possible but like I said to nefremo transfer fee budget is just weird if you ask me.

RE: Summer Mercato 2022 - porcho - 08-24-2022

I don't know. I'm good with selling Leao but I think we missed the boat. should have been sold start of the window so we could pick up Krava or Raspadori.

Now who do we get with the money. easy to say sell but we need to replace him and it's a bit late for that.
That being said, I'd be pushing for a deal like Cash plus Ziyech AND Pulisic.
Pulisic would come to start at LW and Ziyech for RW. We'd then also have lots of versatility up front with most of our attackers capable of playing a few positions.

Damn this is provoking to see. I have talked about this all summer. Now little Nice could get him on loan? He has so much upside that i would love to pick him up. We sorely need a RW with pace and delivery. If this is a loan with no obligation and Arsenal pays some of his salary, i hope M/M cries in their chairs right now.

RE: Summer Mercato 2022 - Beppe - 08-24-2022

RW could be fixed easely, ziyech, pepe, Lang, pulisuc, all available and it shouldnt sht loads of money.
But it looks like Gerry doesnt want to invest in mercato. Dunno how ambitious that guy is.
We could have a team that could go far in CL and win serie A many times in coming years. Now its also not impossible but some investment could make it a lot easyer

RE: Summer Mercato 2022 - Zio Fester - 08-24-2022

Gazzetta dello Sport: Jorge Mendes has told the Milan management to expect a bid from Chelsea for Rafael Leao before the window closes.

RE: Summer Mercato 2022 - Beppe - 08-24-2022

Selling Leao now wont make sense. Many of our targets are gone and their is too little time.

Pepe would be a great pickup. Even more so if we sell Leao because he'd be our speedy winger.

I agree but if we get a favourable deal - say 60m plus Pulisic and Ziyech. or 70m plus Pulisic because we go for Pepe instead.
that covers the hole and we can keep that money there to spend on a top player that might arise in Jan OR end of season.

With Leao playing games... better to get a deal that suits us now rather than wait till end of season where we only get offered half that.

Looks increasingly like we either sell now while we can or pay Leao what he wants or we're screwed.

RE: Summer Mercato 2022 - nefremo - 08-24-2022

Fuck Mendes. He screwed us with Renato and now he's doing it with Leao. If he wants to bring a bid for Leao, it better be at OUR terms. If he doesn't do that, don't sell. If he refuses to sign an extension also, put him on the bench next year and let him rot there. Someone has to be the exsmplenof what'll happen when you just use the club. Might as well be Mendes and his client.

I get these are his clients and he works for them, not us. We also don't know the conversations that have gone on between Mendes and the management....but all this talk that we are working on a renewal, and than he comes with a bid at the end of the summer? It has to work for all involved. Not just for Mendes and Leao. And if it doesn't work for us, screw them. Leao can stay on his "low" salary for 2 more years and rot on the bench for one of those. We'll see than which team will offer him a huge salary and a big commission to Mendes. My guess is not many, if any, after being on the bench for a year.

This also applies to the supposed internal cap, a hard cap as the say here in North America can't be just because Gazidis sits down and decides to be careful with $$$.

dont forget the installment we might have to pay or the wages we have to pay for next year, if the management want a healthy club, we cannot operate like madrid or any epl clubs or even monza, i think 10m left on the bank is quite accurate we also need to think about the winter mercato

about leao, if we sold him at the last minute and didnt get a replacement that is wrong on so many level, but if we could get him for 30m + pulisic + ziyech, i will take the offer

I am not sure I agree that the only alternative to EPL or Real type is "only 50 million". My concern is growing the team step by step for CL. CDK, Adli, Origi is not a small step but it is not big either, in CL terms at least. Not just because they are not good but they are addressing fewer spot than we need to grow. If one of them was a good CD and the other a good real RW it would be a bit different.
