Zaccagni has been great for 2 seasons at least. Hakan good for 6 months. Don't waste time on Hakan, he is just a very average player.

20m Plus another 40m would be enough. He'd be a great pickup but wouldn't come cheap.
Same as Luis Alberto.

He's been decent for his national team, but he's 29 and probably have one decent season at club level...

He's just not good enough. Better than Samu, but that's no real achievement.

No, there were no astronomical offers available for either player last year, but even selling those two for say 40m combined, which is very realistic, would've gone a long way in helping us in the FFP accounting. Instead, we kept them around and they walked away for free, and now we are in a even worse situation with FFP because we have to spend cash to sign their replacements. I can't imagine Donna or Hakan's demands were not known to management this time last year. If they thought those figures were excessive and they would never satisfy it, then yes, I would expect them to be sold, even if the offers are not astronomical. That is sound asset management. Bayern did that with Toni Kroos, Real is doing that now with Varane, just to use a couple of examples.

I don't doubt the management are in a difficult situation with a lot of the players, but frankly speaking, that is what they are here for. Nobody said running Milan is a job so simple that any idiot can just do it. But just because it is difficult doesn't mean we should just quit trying to make better decisions. Fine, Hakan and donna can leave for free, but if we are going to make the same errors with Roma/Kessie by offering them contracts that are well below what they can get in the market and then expect them to eventually cave in and just sign, then we are going to be in the same shit hole this time next year.

Issue was... the only offer we got for those guys was 15m plus Areola for Gigio and that's it. We had no buyers for Hakan and we would have gotten peanuts plus be stuck with an average starting keeper for this season.
Losing those guys for free is less than ideal and I think Maldini should learn from this. Not be so Naive and believe it when money hungry hacks say they'll come to the table later.

(06-22-2021, 12:49 AM)devoted_dm Wrote: Another thing worth mentioning again is that we'd also have to pay these players' taxes, so the actual cost of giving Calhanoglu 6M per year would be around 12M per year. That is a lot of money for a talented, but inconsistent player nearing his late 20s.
Agreeing to a total cost of 30M for Calhanoglu over the course of three years, and probably a sizeable commission for his agent on top of that, is just kind of not worth it if you ask me. He's been an important player for us, but he's just not that good.

THIS. It's easy to say it's only 5/6m a season but that's not the actual cost.
I would have no issue with paying that sort of value if the guys were playing a top level over the last 3 seasons they were here but frankly...
Gigio has not grown enough over the last few years.
Hakan has had a good 6 months out of 3 years.
Kessie has had a good 12 months out of 3 years.
Romagnoli has regressed over the last couple of years and seems to be unwilling to properly fight for a starting spot.
We need to become even more ruthless and pretty much send players away at whatever cost IF they hit 12 months left and not willing to sign.

The best hope we have is signing someone better to leave us some money to reinforce a CF. The numbers don’t add up otherwise. I image management saw this and figured they could get more bang for their buck securing other positions such as CF or RW by keeping an average Hakan. This deal probably held us back from those fronts.

Trying to be optimistic about all this and hoping management have some secrets up their sleeves. That and Saele and Benna take some real big steps up next season.

That's what I meant, from a financial point of view overpaying for Hakan was still cheaper than a good CAM, emphasis on financial and on good CAM.
Financially, letting him become a Bosman is a wrong decision that will hurt the team, if saying that 'management couldn't see it coming' doesn't solve anything, there is no way management can let any under 30 contract get to the January before Bosman.

And when you remember Eriksen hadn't actually set San Siro on fire for Inter, you see that they may not miss Eriksen much, but are actually saving on wages.

Uh...reasonably sure Inter still has to pay Eriksen's wages. His contract is guaranteed.

So what's the suggestion? That we offer him this crazy 5M just so that he stays and doesn't leave for free???

Not sure why there is this thought that we can sign players on high contracts just to sell them later.
Have we every considered the fact that we may NOT be able to sell them later? Then what? We're stuck paying this big salary? Who would spend 25-30M on Hakan AND give him that 5M salary? Nobody!!! Nobody will! So if we gave him 5M, get prepared to watch him on the field for the remainder of that contract. You guys honestly want that? Based on what we've seen the past 4 years?

It is a mistake because management should have never allowed players to stay on the team when they have one year left on their contract and negotiations are not going anywhere. Yes, by the time you get to where we are at this point with Donna and Hakan, we are screwed. We either have to overpay for their services, and potentially risk not being able to get rid of them down the road, or we have to let them walk for free. It is really a lose lose situation for us. That is why management should have the foresight to make the right moves last offseason and get rid of those two. If I recall correctly, since we came off a really strong second half of the season, both guys' value were fairly high and we could've at least recover some money from their sales.

Confirmed they have to pay for his wages, Inter lost big money because of Eriksen. They have to spend another 12m on Hakan wages to replace him.

Di Marzio

#James_Rodriguez is one of #Milan's options to compensate for Hakan's departure

RE: Summer mercato 2021 - slifersd - 06-22-2021

I am going to make a bold prediction here regarding Hakan's replacement. Our number one goal is going to be a loan deal for some big team's unwanted star, like a Ziyech. If that doesn't work out, we are going to resign Pessina, bring back Pobega and have those two compete with Brahim and Tonali to see who would start in that position. I don't know about you guys, but if it is Pessina/Pobega/Brahim/Tonali, I am actually kind of excited about it. Those guys are unproven but have talent and can make a giant leap if given the time and opportunity.

That may be, but I'm equally sure that contract will be terminated by mutual consent eventually.

That is the fact people are tip-toeing around. I seem to remember clubs taking a hard stance on players who are trying to run down their contracts. You negotiate, you parley, you cajole, even appeal to sentiment. If all fail, heck, you put your foot down and bring out the stick - send them to the stand, freeze them out. I would have loved to see how Dollarumma would like being thrown out of the squad to spend the season in the stands. I assure you some compromise would have been reached. Is that too extreme? Maybe. But that surely beats losing your most valuable asset for free. At the end of the day, the club comes first, not f**king Dollarumma's career.
