RE: Summer mercato 2021 - reza - 06-21-2021

I don't think management can claim the losses to be 'not mistakes', it is clearly a mistake to lose both for free. The players' attitude is irrelevant in the transfer sense, cause their value is greater than zero to other teams, nothing to do with how they are to Milan. In case of Raiola if management couldn't see this coming they were/are being naive. If not the salary itself the commission was 100% chance of being huge. Frankly I would consider giving Donnarumma 8 or 10, but no way 10, 15 or 20 to Raiola.

RE: Summer mercato 2021 - nefremo - 06-21-2021

How is it a mistake? I don't get it...
So what's the suggestion? That we offer him this crazy 5M just so that he stays and doesn't leave for free???

Not sure why there is this thought that we can sign players on high contracts just to sell them later.
Have we every considered the fact that we may NOT be able to sell them later? Then what? We're stuck paying this big salary? Who would spend 25-30M on Hakan AND give him that 5M salary? Nobody!!! Nobody will! So if we gave him 5M, get prepared to watch him on the field for the remainder of that contract. You guys honestly want that? Based on what we've seen the past 4 years?

RE: Summer mercato 2021 - reza - 06-21-2021

I think we are talking financially and long term. Permanent buys of Diaz and Zaccagni is easily 30 million and 5 million salary (the 2 combined). And the duo are on the cheaper side, much more if we want others.
I am not supporting Hakan staying, I am saying money saving won't exist, unless we will give his or other CAM spot to an 18 years old 500k salary guy (probably no chance of that)

Ultimately though, no player under 30 should be a Bosman for a team like Milan. 100s of million in losses and 100s of million stadium project.

RE: Summer mercato 2021 - nefremo - 06-21-2021

I don't think letting Hakan go would provide savings. Donnarumma, yes. Hakan, no. So the idea is to invest in the right player and improve as a team. If Hakan stayed, we were not going to improve as a team. Especially at 5M, forget it, because then, he would have definitely been the main ACM here.

If we don't have the money to invest in a proper player...then maybe buying a youngster for cheap is the way forward. I don't know. But for me, the way forward is definitely not paying 5M to someone that in no way deserves it just so he doesn't leave for free. Maybe I'm scared from watching the countless players that in recent years refused to leave the club because nobody out there would match the crazy salary we gave them. I have nightmares of listening to management say "if nobody leaves, nobody will arrive"....and damn straight nobody will leave. Not when they're making a shit ton here yet they don't give any performances in return.

We were stuck in a never ending cycle for a while for the exact reason of dishing out insane contracts to nobodies or to 1 year wonders. We were neither here nor there because we couldn't get rid of them, they were not performing...yet we couldn't replace them because we simply couldn't afford the expense.

RE: Summer mercato 2021 - Zio Fester - 06-21-2021

Every club loses players on a free every season, its the way of the world.

What Milan have to do is minimise the risk of this happening and that is by either extending contracts at least 12 months before they end or selling the player if this is not possible.
Its not perfect but under the current system its the only way to avoid losing assets for nothing.

This. Its been at least decade of Milan signing mediocre players on high salaries and then watching helplessly as no other club wants them when the time comes to move them on.

Giving high wages to players nearing 30 or in their 30s is a noose around your neck.

Agree.

The money we could've gotten from their sale this time last year would've been able to fund a SMS type signing, but we have nothing to show for. That is terrible asset management, even if it was done for the right reasons.

But last window we got the one pissweak offer for Gigio. Should we give him what he wants... who will pay a transfer fee, plus Raiola fee, plus 10m a season? We would be repeating old mistakes. Average players on high contracts that we're not able to sell.

(06-21-2021, 11:09 AM)nefremo Wrote: But ultimately, we should only offer the wages WE as a club deem reasonable. Nobody knows our players better then our own management/staff. If an EPL team wants to offer astronomical wages, it should be taken into consideration. But if it's way out of line, then we hold firm and sell if need be. Donnarumma and Hakan should not be repeated. If Kessie, Calabria and Romagnoli don't renew in the next week or two, they should be sold.

THIS!

RE: Summer mercato 2021 - devoted_dm - 06-22-2021

Another thing worth mentioning again is that we'd also have to pay these players' taxes, so the actual cost of giving Calhanoglu 6M per year would be around 12M per year. That is a lot of money for a talented, but inconsistent player nearing his late 20s.
Agreeing to a total cost of 30M for Calhanoglu over the course of three years, and probably a sizeable commission for his agent on top of that, is just kind of not worth it if you ask me. He's been an important player for us, but he's just not that good.

RE: Summer mercato 2021 - honsano - 06-22-2021

I mentioned this a few pages back, but there is no way we are going to save money by letting Hakan go and signing a new midfielder. The best hope we have is signing someone better to leave us some money to reinforce a CF. The numbers don’t add up otherwise. I image management saw this and figured they could get more bang for their buck securing other positions such as CF or RW by keeping an average Hakan. This deal probably held us back from those fronts.

Trying to be optimistic about all this and hoping management have some secrets up their sleeves. That and Saele and Benna take some real big steps up next season.
