This is exactly the problem with not seizing opportunities when they present themselves. Kondogbia, while many would think is overrated, is a high level player who was willing to leave a CL team for us. We did....whatever the hell we actually did there, and lost the guy. And now we had to resort to Plan B, C, D and in the case of Kucka, plan Z. In the highly competitive world of soccer, you simply cannot botch your primary objectives and expect to recover from it easily. Once in a while, your plan B could work wonders, but vast majority of the time, it doesn't. That is why good planning goes such a long way in ensuring a team's success. Mid night mad dash shopping spree sounds fun, but that's usually where some of the worst decisions come from. And we, as a team, are a living examples of that.
My main concern with the Kucka signing, is the ramifications of it. Does this mean we are done with our midfielder signings? It could, as we now have 7 midfielders on the roster already, which is already one too many by our plan. Kucka as a player could have some uses for our team, but the quality is so poor and basically rules out Witsel, who is really a similar style player. Hell, I would have been happier with Alex Song, who is at least proven and have some gas left in the tank than someone who is just flat out mediocre.
I tried to be patient, I really did, but this signing is just pure flat out crap. The so called 150M budget is about 100% over stated, and we are nowhere near good enough to compete for CL. But that's all right, I am sure Galliani will come out next year with full job security and blame the coach for anything that was ailing the team.

I'm going to wait until the mercato is done in 4 short days to make final judgments, but letting Paletta&Rami go and signing Romagnoli was mistake #1.
Romagnoli will, and should be a world beater one day, but can we really rely on him right now? Not every single game.
2. We only bought Bertolacci and Kucka so far for the midfield.. I seriously hope we come up with at least one more big signing in midfield or we're fucked.
3. We should have definitely invested in a trequartista. Honda,Cerci,Menez are all not good enough to fit into the utmost crucial position in a 4-3-1-2. Bonaventura has not been playing his best lately either but I'm pessimistic as to whether he could play there anyhow.
4. We wait until the last minute to do everything, giving no time for players to gel and tactics to be in place for the season.
And as usual, we end up with a makeshift team again with no real direction. Where is our REAL trequartista? We don't have one. Where is our REAL regista that we've desperately needed? We still don't have one. Where is our leader in the defence that we've desperately needed since Silva and Nesta left? We still dont have any of the things we've desperately needed. But hey, we added three great strikers to our roster and spent about 100mln euros.
If I had to redo our entire mercato, I'd still sell everyone who we did. BUT:
I wouldn't have gotten Adriano, I would have got Balotelli on loan, and played around with Menez/Bacca/Balotelli as our three striker options.
I would have bought Abdennour for the defence since we'd have that non-EU spot. I would have tried to buy Rugani for 10m instead of Romagnoli for 25.
I would have done anything to buy our trequartista, even a not so formal one like Draxler would have sufficed. Or hell, at least gamble and snap up someone like Maher.
I definitely would have invested in Gundogan, and I would've bought Clasie for the 8m he was sold for.
Along with all the other opportunities we missed. So far we've done well, but we still have two big priority signings to make if we should succeed, and leaving them until the last days of the mercato is never good if they are to happen at all.

What's the point of Kucka? Another mediocre player to spend his days in Milanello. We have a ton of those......

So apparently this Gallani went to Milanello today and asked Miha about Kucka, and the coach gave his ok. So if this turns out to be a huge mistake, Mihajlovic will have to carry a large part of the blame for it.

True, but I wonder how much better it would have been to sign Soriano for an additional 10-12M though. Would it really have been worth it? Sampdoria did change their terms, after all. They let the 10M release clause that Soriano had expire, and then they suddenly jacked up his price by some 50%, and I think Galliani considered the whole thing to be some bullshit move on their part to try and squeeze as much money out of us as possible. In that respect I think we did the right thing by saying that we'd either pay 10M or not buy the player.

He should've bought the player before August 18th then (when the clause expired). The reason he didn't is because Soriano himself is probably option C,D, whatever. Either that, or Galliani thought that Samp will sell even cheaper closer to the window's end. In any case, it just shows Galliani's arrogance. It's unbelievable that even with a 100mil budget, he still couldn't plan out the market and execute.
