You're on the mark Alan, you'll often hear stories about the greatest players being serious professionals and hardworking at all times. Nesta for example is quoted as saying when Maldini and Costacurta won a major trophy, they'd celebrate a little and then soon move on to the next goal. That's coming from one of the greatest defenders of all time.

In addition to this, in the modern game whatever's said about C.Ronaldo's personality (arrogance etc), no one has ever once said he gives anything less than exceptional workrate in training. Ibra himself never really contributed defensively, but he's always been known for training with seriousness and competitiveness.

He needs a good coach. I am still eager to see if Seedorf can get the most out of him. Seedorf believes in "smiles" and "treating everyone like adults not kids"; the reality so far is that Balotelli has yet to grow up, so we will have to wait and see if it would ever work out. Regardless, if Balotelli even wishes to be the player that he dreams (or talks about) to be, he himself will have to show some determination to improve.

Thanks for sharing those success stories, Alan and Dev.

That's cool Xu. I don't think in Balo's case he needs a good coach, I mean what more can be tried. He's played under Mancini who tried to treat him like a son and it was a fractured relationship. Mourinho who is one of the best man managers out there and he got himself frozen out. He's played under Allegri who as far as I know let's players live their lives without getting too personal and that didn't work and now he's got Seedorf who is trying to act like a close friend/big brother and until now the improvement has been marginal imo.

Honestly, I don't know what other method we can try to get more out of Balo.

Maybe no man management method will ever work with him ... He maybe needs another method, linked to the way he gets money.

For example, he gets a 500K wage basis, if he scores 0-10 goals in Serie A, he gets 1M, if he scores 11-20 goals, he gets 2M, if he scores 21-25 goals, he gets 3M, if he scores 26-30 goals, he gets 4M, if he scores 31+ goals, he gets 6M. Then, you add the European competitions with the same way to earn money (0-5 goals = 1M, 6-10 goals = 2M, ...). And then you have the Italian Cup (each goal = 100K). And to finish, you add a system of bonus (for the assists) and a system of malus (yellow/red cards).

I know no player in the world would ever accept that kind of contract, but with his talent, if that was to make him move his ass on the pitch, he could easily earn a lot of money ... Because he has the talent to be a 20+ goals striker in Serie A, but as he's lazy, he won't reach the 15 goals ... or he will barely score these 15 goals thanks to the PK.

@Dev: You made good points there; though I want to say that Mourinho may still be able to tame him. That guy (Mourinho) has something special up his sleeves.

@Geo: I am not sure that could work. Balotelli isn't exactly a person that craves for money. He did take a pay cut to come to Milan.

RE: Mario "why always me" balotelli - ACMILAN1983 - 03-18-2014

Geo, I'm not going to try to understand what motivates Balo, so I can't say if your suggestion would work. Like you say, no top player would accept that contract and just imagine how Raiola would react if we suggested it.

Xu, I don't know if Mourinho can tame him, you might be right. Truth is, I don't really care anymore, I have no patience for a guy that requires that much work.

RE: Mario "why always me" balotelli - xudong - 03-18-2014

Dev, I can totally understand your frustration, and to be honest, I really hate Mourinho too, so I would not want to see him here.

I am going to drop the discussion here because I don't want to ruin your mood any further (I sense that you are disgusted by Balotelli). See how nice a person I am? :d

RE: Mario "why always me" balotelli - ACMILAN1983 - 03-18-2014

Ah Xu, I'm always happy to discuss Balo lol. Big Grin

Actually, while I do get really annoyed at people who have been handed a golden ticket in life and are prepared to throw it away due to their own stupidity, I'm not totally disgusted by Balo. What he does is up to him and quite frankly if he wastes his career then that's his problem.

I also don't have patience for him though. We have far too many problems in the club right now from top to bottom to have to worry about Balo's immaturity. Maybe Maldini and Costacurta are right that he can do well where he's got the setup ready for him to slot in, but that's not what we paid for when we got him and we can't offer that.

RE: Mario "why always me" balotelli - xudong - 03-18-2014

Paolo and Billy are smart men. Balotelli does seem to be a player that would put the icing on the cake, but not one (at least not proven yet) that would take the team on his shoulders and carry them out of tough time.

I wish that we didn't get rid of Pirlo and Ambrosini so easily. Sad

RE: Mario "why always me" balotelli - Alan - 04-04-2014

I'm actually beginning to feel a little sorry for balotelli, crespo has weighed in with more of the same, that he's not maximising his potential. I wonder how this is effecting him, it must be a bit frustrating for him to be constantly told he's not living up to his potential in such vague terms. if people kept telling me I was wasting my potential I'd probably be like "OK, tell me how to maximise it then?!?!"

agree, the thing with seedorf is, I believe he is the type of coach balotelli wants, but he may not be the type of coach he needs.
