RE: Summer mercato 2015 - ACMILAN1983 - 08-16-2015 somedevil, I thought something very similar. Galliani always likes to say how he's great friends with Perez, now's the time to try and put that to use. On Kovacic, I would have kept him, but when offered 35m + bonuses and it's Real calling (i.e. the kid probably wouldn't want to stay), it's very hard to say no. Had a quick look at the Inter forums after seeing a link elsewhere and understandably they seem to be having a bit of a meltdown right now. As such, my way of evaluating players could be way off the mark. Didn't have the chance to respond earlier, but thanks for your thoughts. I assume none of us here are professional scouts, so we're all in the same boat. I think my definition of a complete midfielder is a bit different to yours, in that I think to be described as such, the player must have qualities to excel (i.e. be good to very good) in numerous areas. If we judge by how few weaknesses one has, then we could feasibly say someone like Poli is a complete midfielder, as he's just very average in every regard, not being weak in any one particular area. I get your point, but what I see is Witsel has a couple of strengths, but otherwise isn't particularly great. I do think he can improve this midfield, I just have massive doubts if he can to the extent that people might be expecting, especially given the weight of expectations due to his price. Romagnoli's in a similar boat, the 25m plus bonuses spent will put unrealistic expectations on his shoulders, but I also think people will show him a little more patience given his age and potential. Just to clarify, I don't hate Witsel or have any agenda against him (I will support him if he joins), frankly I just don't get the interest or hype around him. Anyway, as I said earlier, maybe this conversation has reached its conclusion and the only way I can judge is if he does join and to see how he performs. RE: Summer mercato 2015 - honsano - 08-16-2015 If juve get Isco ill be pissed. He is the type of player Milan need and should splurge on. He really can take us to the next level. There will be question on his adapting to the physicality of Serie A but he'd be worth the risk. RE: Summer mercato 2015 - xudong - 08-16-2015 (08-16-2015, 03:31 AM)Ryo Wrote: Xu, that's unfair... I posted both articles on Soriano way before you did. oops... well, after checking, I only quoted one, as your two and mine aren't all the same.
RE: Summer mercato 2015 - somedevil - 08-16-2015 If Galliani can pull Isco in. I mean that'd be something. It'd be rather incredible. He's the kind of player that can make others in our midfield play well. Players need others better than them to compete. The old Milan always had that. Isco brings that. I had a thought about Honda - Since he ahs been rather physical int he pre-season and hasn't done too badly at pressing and winning the ball back- can he be brought back to the midfield? Wonder how he would do there. Assuming of course that we buy a proper fantasista. RE: Summer mercato 2015 - xudong - 08-16-2015 (08-16-2015, 03:04 PM)honsano Wrote: If juve get Isco ill be pissed. RE: Summer mercato 2015 - devoted_dm - 08-17-2015 (08-16-2015, 05:27 PM)ACM1899 Wrote: I was actually thinking 3-7th I think we'll most likely end up 4th or 5th, based on our current squad. There are some weaknesses in the squad that have not yet been addressed. While our back four looks good, we still lack a clear leader back there. Romagnoli is very young still, so I wouldn't depend on him for that, but I have no idea who else it should be. Generally speaking I think our young players could do quite well though. The midfield is the real weak link of the team, I think. Bertolacci was a welcome addition, but generally I think that we are lacking a bit of substance in that department. De Jong is very reliable, but he is also the only midfielder (excluding Jose Mauri) who is strong defensively. Bonaventura had a good season last year, and could do very well this year too, but he will mainly be able to contribute in the attacking phase of the game. It would be a wise move to bring in a player like Soriano, who can contribute in both phases of the game and knows Mihajlovic's system well. Not that I think he is a world class player, but with him we'd have a more balanced midfield. Otherwise I predict we will see a lot of teams sit back and (successfully) hit us on the counter. The trequartista role is another one that I worry a bit about. Honda doesn't seem to have the necessary creativity for that role, especially considering that a lot of teams are likely to defend in numbers against us. Ideally we'd have a player who's adept at playing those passes that will unlock tight defenses. Bonaventura can play in that role as well, but though he is a better player than Honda, I feel like he doesn't really have what it takes either. Suso can also play in that role, but to be honest I think he is too much of a ball hog . It would be interesting to see Menez in that role, even though he is not really a traditional trequartista. Everybody knows that he is dangerous if he is given too much time on the ball, so I can see him pulling defenders out of position a lot and opening up space for our strikers, at least as long as he is given proper support by the three midfielders behind him.In attack I think we're more than fine. In Carlos Bacca we might have the best forward in the league, if you ask me. He seems to be an allround class player, and can cause problems for any team in the league. Luiz Adriano I don't know that well yet, but judging by what I have seen so far he has both good technique and plenty of physical strength, and judging by his performances in the CL I think he can do very well for us. These two in addition to Menez, Cerci (who can be useful if we need someone who can play wide) and Matri, give us a very strong attacking department. Finally I think Mihajlovic seems like exactly the kind of coach we needed, in that he is a proper coach, something we haven't had since Allegri left. I like that he wants the team to play with intensity, and that he never accepts anything less than maximum effort from his players. So, like I said, I think we're realistically looking at 4th of 5th place with our current squad. If we sign Soriano, I think we'll be challenging for 3rd alongside Inter, Lazio and Napoli. They are all very good teams, but they also tend to be quite inconsistent, so if we can get into a rhythm where we manage to grind out a result week after week, I think we can do it.
