For sure not fake I think. It's just that media doesn't know how long the exclusivity deal is so they were guessing. Also, prelimimary docs may even already be signed for all we know...but it's always been maintained that official closing will be after the season ends.
Anyway, even Paolo "confirmed" the negotiations, so it seems for sure it is not fake news.

definitely no fake news here. this time negotiations are underway. there's bveen enough official people mentioning it to know that much.
The only question is whether they come to a deal or not.

Some more details about Redbird:
Former Goldman Sachs executive Gerry Cardinale is in talks to acquire Milan, challenging asset manager Investcorp in a more than €1bn takeover battle for the Serie A football club.
Cardinale’s RedBird Capital Partners, which owns a minority stake in the parent company of English Premier League side Liverpool FC, is looking to buy Milan from US hedge fund Elliott Management.
