On the flip side, other teams KNOW that we need a striker now so they hold all the cards. In addition, said player has missed the entire preseason, and the Serie A season starts next weekend. #forwardplanning #milanchronicles

When does Galliani not buy players late in the market? This has been standard practice for almost two decades. I remember us buying Nesta on the transfer deadline day in 2002 after losing out on Cannavaro, and everyone knew we needed a defender that summer. Hell, even de Jong joined us on the transfer deadline day.

Forget about Balotelli. He would have been a massive tactical problem this season, and selling him makes perfect sense. Galliani will bring in a solid replacement who is hopefully much more of a team player.

I'm saying that it's not the smartest thing to wait this late to get players because it does not really benefit us. Like I said earlier, he won't have a preseason at all. Also, Galliani lately has not shown to be competent in acquiring replacements when important sales are made. I'll only approve selling our best player (for peanuts at that) if we get a class player or even two. Else, this is a terrible tranfer.

RE: Summer Mercato - goose - 08-21-2014

Good move. Don't care about the numbers, I would've sold him for a cup of water and a bucket of grease. Heck of a player, all the talent in the world, but unfortunately just inconsistent and immature. Eighteen months was more than enough time to determine his potential, and that couldn't come round in this environment with the press watching his every move and his personal dramas. Balotelli certainly needs a change of scenery, perhaps things with turn for the better for him.

As for the team, I'll withhold comment until the end of the transfer window. Sigh, we'll see what happens. Let's hope recent history won't repeat itself. Either way I'm still a fan and will watch as much as I can. Shit, who can look away from a train wreck?

My point is that it is not a comparable situation. Sheva was the best forward in the world when he left, and we replaced him with a nobody. Balotelli is far from being the best forward in the world, and we will probably replace him with someone who is much better suited to Inzaghi's system.

And that's another factor in all of this. Massimo Oddo said in an interview today that if Inzaghi had really wanted to keep Balotelli, Milan would've kept him. Obviously Pippo does not see him as someone worth keeping, and I totally understand why.

But weirdly, I'm not that surprised nor unhappy (and I'm not happy as well, I just don't care because Balo is potentially a WC player, but will he ever reach that level ? Nowadays, the answer is clearly no ... I hope for him and Italy that he will change, someday).

Anyway, like someone said, with now 35M to spend, we could reinforce the team.

We could imagine :
- Jackson Martinez (the problem Porto has is the player seems to want to leave) in two or more installments for 20-25M
- Cerci for 15M + one or two players
- Rabiot for 15M in two or more installments (he will be out of contract come the end of the season)
The addition of these purchases would cost [25;35] Millions in this mercato (depending on the installments), which means that would fit in our budget (especially if that's close to 25M as that means our management would save some money, which they like to do).

3 players improving the squad, they are all players who can run and work for their team, and they're not known for being unprofessionnal or trouble-making.

They would fit in the project of Inzaghi.

You're forgettig we owe €12m on Balo €9m on Matri and are close to Dzemaili for €4m.Take €5m off for Balo installment €4m on Matri and €4m on Dzemaili.Thats a big dent.
One thing is for we will not be signing Martinez Rabiot unless its a loan which is pointless.Cerci at best with Dzemaili and Pandev or Taarabt.

When will fans learn. This is 2014 Milan not even 2010 Milan.Theyll find the cheapest way possible along with at best Cerci.

RE: Summer Mercato - millinarios - 08-21-2014

I think we don't sell Balotelli just because he is the rotten apple in the squad. We also have to consider that the rotten apple is currently our most valuable player. Our management likes to make the money disappear in these cases. They have the Fininvest fine, they have loss to cover. It's obvious they don't want to invest, and they don't have a long term plan for Milan.

RE: Summer Mercato - ACMILAN1983 - 08-21-2014

I don't really get the fuss with selling Balo, imo he needed to go. Some of the reactions are as though we're selling a massive asset, but the reality is we're talking about a destructive figure on the pitch with his lack of work ethic, off the pitch due to his antics and unprofessional behaviour and honestly his value is dropping fast at Milan. Add to this, we're talking about a player who's never stepped up in any important games and regularly let's opponents and fans get to him mentally. He might have all the talent in the world, but really we're not talking about a special player.

Before the world cup, we could have got around 30m, but the events that followed meant he was a player in demand, even if clubs need new strikers. If he had another season of any sort of controversy or without the return expected (minimum of 1 goal every 2 games), which is a very likely possibility, we'd be talking about a player whose value would only further drop and is our highest earner.

Now I'm not saying this is the way I would have dealt with selling him, certainly I'd much rather we take a more structured approach as Mystik alludes to, but the fact is Galliani does this sort of thing every year and we have a mad rush at the end of the market.

If we get a reasonable replacement and reinforce in areas we need to, then this move is surely to the greater benefit and even if we don't, I'm not sure we're much worse off knowing Balotelli's ability to detract. However, everything depends on what the club do next with the money from this sale and this is where I'm a little concerned.

THIS OkmilanOkmilanOkmilan

People are overracting. Milan will be a better team without Mario, period.

People are talking about "WHAT HAS MY MILAN BECOME", etc, etc.......EXACTLY! What has it become??? Players like Mario wouldn't have lasted 1 month in Milan back in the 90s and early 2000s. Now we have people crying over his sale. As far as I'm concerned, selling Mario is the first step BACK to what MILAN WAS AND SHOULD BE! We don't need lazy troublemakers that think they own the world. Walk on the field, cause ALL SORTS OF TROUBLE in the locker room, AND they DON'T produce on the field EITHER.

I see no problem with selling Mario. The best move of the market. At least I will watch a group of players killing themselves on the field for the shirt, and not a premadonna that walks around like the entire world owes him something!!!!! It was an insult to diehard fans like us to watch him on the field in our shirt. All that talk that he is a Milan fan, but never bled on the field for the shirt.

Now he is someone else's problem. And if he succeeds over there (I expect a good initial few months, and then he'll be back to the same shit) then fine. I won't shed a tear at all. All the best. It wasn't meant to be here. Thank you and goodbye!
Forza Milan!!! FOREVER!!!!!

RE: Summer Mercato - reza - 08-21-2014

Unless someone really good replaces him this is s still a loss, even including Balo's attitude. We can say that commercially (team sales, exposure, etc.) there is 99% chance that this is not a good thing, on the pitch (destructive, bad attitude) well yes but let's see if we see any actual improvement on the pitch.
