Like Siregar said, not many are ready for Milan yet. Milan might be struggling, but the pressures at the club are still immense. Bringing in a player without senior level experience to just slot in is very difficult, few are able to just make the leap and if you're not careful, you end up in a DES stage where when the struggles come it's difficult to get them back on track. The other aspect is we're not developing many top level CBs, the most realistic prospect being Ivan De Santis, who only turned 18 in May. That said, it's not totally true that we're not giving our own youngsters a chance. Obviously DES is our own, as is Calabria who will hopefully adapt to senior football this year and let's not forget, Rodrigo Ely is from our youth system. I think we don't seem to acknowledge them as much as we don't spend masses of money on them.

As the article somedevil posted on the EPL thread alludes to, there's a lot of hype and interest that the transfer market alludes to. Romagnoli is talked about because the club seem prepared to spend 25-30m on him, while Ely, who came for peanuts is barely recognised. It's conditioned in us that the more spent means the greater the quality, but in no shape is that true. Continuing with Romagnoli and Ely, Romagnoli is obviously ahead because he's got a full year in Serie A under his belt, but let's not ignore what Ely's accomplished over the past few years. He's been in the lower leagues and has often been consistently very good. Last year, in Serie B, he was recognised as one of the best CBs in the league. He's got a bright future and if we nurture him well, we could have a potentially great CB pairing with him and Romagnoli.

Actually, I'm even more hopeful than that, I want a Milan backline that in the next 2-3 years is made up of 3 homegrown talents and Romagnoli. It's not as difficult as you might imagine, with DES, Calabria and Ely all homegrown, while there are other prospects like Felicioli. Actually, in most cases our fullbacks are homegrown in recent years.

On Romagnoli, it looks like today is probably the day a deal will be struck. It looks like contractual details were sorted yesterday (I've read he'd earn 1.5-2m per year). It's expected the 25m offer will stand, with 2-5m being offered in bonuses.
