RE: Summer mercato 2015 - somedevil - 08-08-2015 Romagnoli not coming to us now, after all this hoopla will be a massive let down. But then again after 'Jackson Siii' anything is possible. Curva sud for sure won't be happy. When the initial signings of this window were made there was not a peep out of them. They publicly said that they will reserve their judgment till after the window ends. Clearly they know B & G's shenanigans better than we do. I am still hoping that deals are agreed upon and Galliani is just waiting for Bee's check to cash. Talking of Maher, I wish we had gone for Clasie. He seems a much more complete player to me. If we were to do some fantasy transfers then I would absolutely love Samper from Barca. He probably won't be a starter for them but for us he would walk into the first XI. RE: Summer mercato 2015 - Jay Crisp - 08-08-2015 Well if there waiting for Bee's deal to be final theyll get it on Sept 30th as was reported. We need a very very good CB and 2 CM's plus a CAM to be competitive.Right now we havent improved at all.Bacca is a very CF but without service he wont be prolific , Adriano never impressed me.Bertolacci is pretty average.Mauri is a kid.We have a horrid defence & midfield and will struggle as we are.Only difference is we will of paid €60m to finish midtable.Thats without proper mids & def signed. This..I feel that Milan Overpaid the "Wrong" player..We have money this season, should spend it correctly.. Up till today (of course still have few weeks till mercato is closed)..For me, Seems like last summer mercato was better..we got Diego Lopez,Menez,Alex,Bonaventura,Torres with less than 10M ..it's a steal..(money spent/Player quality wise) But now..we spent 60M for "the likes" of Bacca,Adriano,Ely,Bertolacci,Mauri.. so far after watching the friendly matches and saw these players performance..feels like a fail mercato to me.. but i hope it turn out to be wrong at the end of the season RE: Summer mercato 2015 - reza - 08-08-2015 I don't think in a span of 1, 2 or 3 seasons Bacca and Luiz Adriano will be seen as bad transfers. Big price or otherwise. Bertolacci I can't predict really, it will depend how he is used. RE: Summer mercato 2015 - somedevil - 08-08-2015 Ragazzi. Galliani met with Romagnoli's people today. Roma still being the third wheel http://www.football-italia.net/70750/milan-new-romagnoli-talks RE: Summer mercato 2015 - nefremo - 08-08-2015 I don't see how this changes the player's mind as he still won't be first choice. He was always the last choice this summer in pre-season for some reason. Maybe because they were planning on selling him and it has nothing to do with quality, but who knows. Either way, I think the will of the player will play a big part and he seems to want to come to Milan. We will finally know everything tomorrow. I expect us to sign him and them to announce that Mbiwa is staying. Also, 8-9mil is a lot different then the 25 that we will pay for Romagnoli. RE: Summer mercato 2015 - Stitch - 08-08-2015 i think romagnoli is overrated. he is good, but 15m good, not 30. why would we offer 30 when nobody else is offering anything? i think we at milanmania have tendency to overrate certain players that some of us want to see in milan. santacroce comes to mind. zapata from his udinese days too. Jucilei was the next Xavi according to some of us kaka when he was coming from real? im sure there's plenty more
RE: Summer mercato 2015 - xudong - 08-08-2015 I couldn't tell if Romagnoli is overrated or not, but I am annoyed at us funding a direct competitor for their purchases. Maybe 20M for Bertolacci was already overpaid. How come we can't give our own youngsters some decent chance? RE: Summer mercato 2015 - nefremo - 08-08-2015 Stitch, that's true and it's because we are all experts on Milan players (we see them play 40+ times a season, we see every single touch, bad and good, everything they do). On the other hand, we will see other players play 5+ times a year, some 10, more or less.....there is NO WAY that this is enough to say how good a player will be. It simply isn't enough "data". Would you spend 1mil Euro on a house that you've only seen but have not done any inspections on it? The point is that the club hires professionals to watch every single game of every single team in Italy, and in many cases in other european leagues as well. So if these people say that this player has the potential to be a world class CB, well than this is the price. There are plenty of other factors too. Just because nobody else is bidding for the player, doesn't mean that he is not worth the money. After all, why did PSG pay 63mil when nobody else was bidding. It's simple, the player cost "this much", if you want him you pay. The other factors are that he is Italian (like it or not people keep searching for the next big Italian CB so whispers of one with potential to be that raise the price right away - it was the same with Rugani this year and Napoli offered apparently 20+mil and it was turned down) ; he plays for a team that's in direct competition (Roma) with the buyer (Milan) ; he is a homegrown player for them and fans have already voiced their opinion against the sale. In my opinion, 25mil is already very high of a number for Romagnoli, but then again, I've only seen him play a few times and I in no way can say how much he is worth because of that. I am hoping that the people willing to pay 25mil have seen him play and have disected his abilities to where they are confident that he is worth that. We've seen them be both wrong and right. Xu, sure we are funding Roma, but we like that player. You are not going to NOT buy a player just because he plays for a competitor. Bayern doesn it every year, and it turn they end up killing off the competition by signing their players. "Funding" them has not been a problem. Of course, they buy the competitors' best players, and not players that were loaned out.....but like I said, if our scouts and management believe in these players, then I don't see the problem. Do I agree with these scouts and this management, not always. Like I disagree with the fact that they are interested in Witsel!

I don't think anyone would disagree with your assessment on Romagnoli. I think the inflation created in this market and situation with Romagnoli is what's driving the prices. I don't know if people overrate players as such. Most of the names you mentioned I think people were talking about if these players fulfilled their potential, which is something that's never a guarantee. That's not something particularly unique to Milan fans, it's just common among people who follow football (not just fans). Obviously there's often an emotional attachment to players who have achieved a lot with Milan, like Kaka, but again, if you look back at the comments when he came, there were a lot of doubts as well as enthusiasm. In Romagnoli's case, the cost is a massive gamble and the amount of debate that 30m has caused both among Milan fans and even in the press is testament to the doubts about the price. If he succeeds and achieves his potential, that price is totally worth it, but if not, then yes it's a lot of money lost. Unfortunately that's the general predicament we find ourselves in. We spent a lot to get Bertolacci and Bacca (who rarely seems to be mentioned when it comes to the amount spent) and so far neither have really suggested in preseason they're worth what was paid for them. That said, let's give it a little time, it's only been a month so far. |
