RE: Winter mercato 2024 - Bennacer - 11-13-2023 Four red cards in 12 rounds are just insane numbers. Most teams did not have this amount in two seasons.. Something needs to be done with this. On thing are the tackle from Thiaw on Thuram in the derby, another thing is Giroud at the weekend. How can you be som immature when you are 37 years old? Crazy. RE: Winter mercato 2024 - nefremo - 11-13-2023 (11-13-2023, 02:16 PM)Bennacer Wrote: Four red cards in 12 rounds are just insane numbers. Most teams did not have this amount in two seasons.. It stems from frustration. Players have been losing their heads. We had the Leao/Giroud fiasco when they were substituted. We had the Calabria interview after PSG in France. We now have a Giroud red card after blowing a 2 goal lead to Lecce, of all teams. So it's an ongoing problem, and it hasn't shown signs of getting better. Winning makes everything OK, so things are likely to change if we can string a few victories together. But there is obviously a root cause and the relationship between some of our more senior players and Pioli is no longer what it was in the past. The last couple years, you had the sense that the players would walk through a brick wall for Pioli. No matter how unhappy some of us were with the game play and personnel decisions last year, you could still sense the group was together....and more importantly, they were together with the coaching staff. I don't see that anymore. I see a broken relationship, no matter how hard the management tries to make it seem otherwise in public. Every week, there is a different problem in Milan. Many times, it's the same types of problems that spread to other players. We'll see what happens, but whereas I never believed the "Pioli at risk" rumours here and there in the last several weeks.....I really do believe that failure to beat Fiorentina and Dortmund (which will likely mean getting knocked out of the CL) will spill the end for Pioli. The question becomes who takes over....and maybe that's why (the lack of options currently) the management is hoping Pioli solidifies 4th and makes it out of the group....so that we can at least finish the season with him. One way or another.....unless we win Serie A or have another impressive run in the CL.....I think we all can see this is Pioli's end at Milan. If not now, then in June. Only a blind man can't see that he's reached the very end with this group. There hasn't been improvement in a long time and all we see is stagnation (and now disciplinary issues). On Serie A, obviously, statistically we can still win it. There are 26 games to be played. But realistically, seeing how we "play football" and seeing our injuries (which are showing no way of stopping), there is zero chance. On the CL, it's a 2 game season for us, basically. Only 2 games to focus on, so anything can happen and we can probably sneak into the knockouts. So I think Pioli's future with Milan will be known within the month. If he can get through the next month, then he'll make it to June. But if we drop more points in Serie A and are knocked out of the CL, I really do think he'll get the sack in December. RE: Winter mercato 2024 - Santino - 11-13-2023 I think this is the end for this team. The project reached his peak with that Serie A title and that good run in the UCL. Now is time for the next step. And Pioli is not the man for that. I just dont see it. RE: Winter mercato 2024 - 1994.acmilan - 11-13-2023 I think biggest mistake our last mercato was to buy Chuk + Pulisic and let Saelemakers and Messias go. I always said unless we're substantially upgrading there's no purpose. Both Chuk + Pulisic honestly are not an upgrade over Messias/Saele. Pulisic had a great first few games but now he's out here getting injured and hasn't done much recently. Saele was like that too, so was Messias where they had a few outstanding games. We stepped sideways and it cost us like 50-60m. Stupid stupid stupid mistake. That's how I feel about striker too. Unless we can find and buy someone guaranteed don't bother. RE: Winter mercato 2024 - Sampinjon - 11-13-2023 "Guaranteed" means we have to spend some serious money. Considering how cheap our board is - don't hold your breath on it. We should just get used that all our future signings will be flops, rejects (due to being on discount) and cats in the bags (second class of young and/or talented players) - let's hope they'll work. Agreed will cost money but what was the logic of buying both Pulisic + Chuk for 60m. We could've spent 60m on one player and kept Saele or Messias as a back up option. I'm starting to see why Maldini and Milan parted ways. He probably didn't see a clear future. I disagree about Pulisic, we got him fairly cheap and he have resale value as the captain of the American national team. He has also performed over expectations. But taking Chuku for that sum was bad, we should have kept Alexis who is a great team player. RE: Winter mercato 2024 - nefremo - 11-13-2023 I honestly thing all the signings, except Jovic, we're good. We upgraded positions we needed to upgrade. It was never going to all be done in 1 window. And to be completely fair, Reijnders, RLC and Pulisic have been a massive upgrade over what we saw last season in those positions. Additionally, we finally have a decent sub for Leao in Okafor...but Pioli won't play him unless skmeone in the attack dies. We have not upgraded at CF, and that's causing to be a problem. But like I said, ot was never going to be done in 1 summer. I'll wait to judge Chuk. He came late on in the window, his progress has been interrupted through international duty (seems evert 4-5 weeks these days) and an injury. The biggest issue currently is injuries and discipline. It's not even Pioli's dumbass tactics. But simply, we have not been able to play our strongest 11 for several matches in a row, apart from the very beginning of the season. It's either injuries or suspensions/red cards. This team is not a top European level, but it has a ton of potential, and we've seen flashes of that. Ironically, moreso in the CL, as despite playing against Newcastle, Dortmund and PSG twice, we've only been outplayed in one of those games (in France). I don't think it's fair to criticize the market after every bad performance. It's inaccurate imo. There are other issues on hand here. And yes. For those, Pioli might just be the biggest culprit. But like I said, ot was never going to be done in 1 summer. I'd need to see Pulisic perform consistently and stay fit before deeming him any kind of upgrade let alone massive. IMO he's had a few great games and average everywhere in between. Doesn't seem much different than Saele or Messias for now. I think he has some quality to do well here but I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. Reijnders is a very good midfielder happy with his signing, but massive upgrade over who? Tonali? I wouldn't say so just yet. I think he can be better because for his first season in Serie A he's doing better than Tonali did but in this exact moment I still think Tonali would take the cake. RLC always impressed me even at Chelsea. He had Bellingham level expectations early on but injuries killed him. I was never as surprised as others to see him put in beastly performances. RE: Winter mercato 2024 - nefremo - 11-14-2023 Why does "Tonali take the care" over Reijnders? Is this based on the fact that he's a Milan fan??? Tonali's career at Mioan was mediocre. His first was so disappointing rhat we essentially returned him to Brescia and demanded a discount to negotiate again. 2nd season was good, but more industrial then anything else. 3rd was mediocre again. So yea, I'd say Reijnders is proving to be quite the coup. On Pulisic, let's agree to disagree. You should have been here last season to see the outcry and the desperate ask for a change at the right wing. No matter if you were here or not, you definitely would have noticed it. Pulisic has more quality then both Saele and Messias. Messias scored 10 goals for Milan in his entire time here. Pulisic has already scored 4 in 3 months. How is that not an upgrade?? I'm not even going to talk about Saelemaekers. That doesn't even need comparison. |
