RE: R16: Germany - Algeria (June 30, 2014 - 22:00 CET) - Ace - 06-30-2014 Well done to Algeria forcing an extra time... now fatigue will kick in and surely Germany would win RE: R16: Germany - Algeria (June 30, 2014 - 22:00 CET) - reza - 07-01-2014 Mertesaker and Boateng played like the other doesn't exist. I do not recall seeing defending like this from a "big" team. RE: R16: Germany - Algeria (June 30, 2014 - 22:00 CET) - Aficio - 07-01-2014 Hummels had a fever before the match, so he will be back in time. Algeria fought a great match, but Germany were not surprised for too long, their midfield trio gradually controlled the match very well. RE: R16: Germany - Algeria (June 30, 2014 - 22:00 CET) - Nalx - 07-01-2014 Definitely the most thrilling game in the round 16 so far with both goalies being the best player for both teams albeit for different reason. The Germans were better technically, created all sorts of chances and half chances only to be denied by Rais who made ten saves. His counterpart Neuer only made three but intercepted brilliantly as a sweeper as German high line defense made up of four centre-backs got caught out by Algeria's counter-attacks time and time again. RE: R16: Germany - Algeria (June 30, 2014 - 22:00 CET) - ACMILAN1983 - 07-01-2014 An outstanding game and very unfortunate for Algeria, who have been excellent this tournament and maybe never got the praise they deserve (me included). Germany really struggled, even in ET despite going ahead, and the way Alegria play with a physically imposing pressing game highlights to me a flaw in this German side that I've suspected for a while. That said, the technical game of Algeria wasn't lacking either, playing some beautiful 1 touch football. Germany did play a great game too, but ultimately it's less of a surprise with them. Muller, despite missing numerous chances, was excellent imo. This guy's movement and positioning is superb. Finally, I think both keepers deserve a mention. The Algerian keeper pulled of some outstanding saves (reminded me of how Ochoa's been this tournament), while Neuer wasn't saving much, but the way he acted as a sweeper was exceptional. Again, this isn't anything new, as he does it at Bayern, but the way he did it and the number of times he acted quickly to clear danger was very impressive.
