Really nice words from De Jong. Seems like a beast in preseason so far and a guaranteed starter at this point even if these few games are not much to go by, some players you can just see they are quality from a few games. I'm starting to see why Man City paid like 30mln pounds for him when they bought him, if we give him an important role and not make him 2nd or 3rd option like he was in his last season(s) with man city then I think he'll do a great job for us.

For someone I've had my issues with, I must say since coming to us he's been really important. I'm quite excited to see what our midfield will be like this season.

at the risk of sounding like galliani, i must say that a healthy nigel de jong is our most important acquisition this summer.

When we signed Nigel back in summer 2012 as a last-minute signing, I was in the total minority of our fans over the moon at getting him.
I knew how good he was and how important he'd become. At only 6M or whatever a total steal - frankly on his day as good as any destroyer DM out there. An essential part of any title assault.

We didn't get much of a chance at all to see De Jong last season, but what a beast. Just posting this to give respect, he's becoming easily one of my favorite players on this Milan.

well i was a member of that minority too. while he did have some dirty plays in his career, he was never materazzi-dirty. Still not clear why City gave him up so easily, he's clearly our best midfielder so far this season.
i just wish he wasnt injured last season, we could've done much better.

He's earnt the respect and like Van Bommel has earnt his respect.

I was dead set against him, not because I doubted his ability, which I always felt he was needed, but because of his history with dangerous play. Thankfully, it's something he's curbed so far in his time with us, I only hope it stays that way.

I would even go as far as saying de Jong is our most reliable player this season. Balotelli certainly would be in that role, but his immaturity is so costly. Montolivo is hot and cold (mostly cold). El Shaarawy is not even given many chances. Kaka has not started (his journey, I mean). Abbiati is vulnerable to crazy howlers that cost us games. Who else? I honestly can't think of anyone that is more important than de Jong for this team at this point.
