RE: Allegri's system next season - Gio-mania - 05-15-2012 I'm very curious to see the use of Montolivo in our squad next season. Has Monty been on Allegri's radar for a while or did the management simply take the opportunity of signing him for free? Possibly a bit of both, but it is important in regards to Allegri's intentions. In any case it would seem that Allegri has first team visions for Monty (compare with this: http://www.milanlive.it/2012/05/15/calciomercato-milan-allegri-elenca-la-formazione-del-prossimo-anno-emanuelson-terzino-montolivo-mezzala-muntari-regista-e/ -> my translation ). He isn't however certain on whether to field him in the center or as a RCM/LCM, and whether or not to make him a focal point in our build-up play, though he is considering him as a Pirlo-esque regista. The reason I find this important is that it will dictate how the formation, and line-up, is arranged. If he plays slightly off to the side we are in dire need of a Van Bommel type player, or, as Allegri seems to be considering, playing Muntari in that holding role. Captain Ambrosini is also an option, which has been used throughout the season. Given our ambitions neither one really convinces me. I really feel this is a position that deserves some spending on more than any other (maybe tied with CB), but I won't go into this here. Should Monty play central, we would obviously be looking for some dynamic RCMs and LCMs, capable of destroying but also going forward. The options at this point are Nocerino, Muntari, Traoré and Flamini (granted he stays). Boateng could also be an option, though right now he seems like the best option in the trequartista position. Right, and Merkel and Strasser. It is clear that Allegri likes a physical, dynamic midfield and that he is not willing to sacrifice this for a creative player (see Pirlo, Dinho). It is only natural he will continue with this, and that any creative type player will have to have said characteristics. It is equally clear however, that we need some more creativity. Monty alone wont be able to inject that, though he is able to string some passes together. I find your suggested formations/line-ups interesting, ACMILAN1983. I do however feel it is is unlikely that we get two new quality midfielders (to be honest I've never heard of Strootman before, but I'm assuming he is a promising Van Bommel type player). Replace Ganso with Cassano or Robinho (or maybe Tevez) and you have something more realistic. RE: Allegri's system next season - Kastriot - 05-15-2012 Guess who is Strootman`s agent. MINO RAIOLA. We have done this guy a lot of favors, he shoud repay us with this great favor

Maybe later. Your points are fair. My reasoning for the thread is I want people to give realistic ideas about what they want to see next season. This isn't easy as it's impossible to know what'll happen this summer, but I've tried to use the rumours and predictions in the press to get a rough idea. Mostly, I have my own ideas (as posted) and I want to see what differing opinions out there about our future. I could have posted in the fantasy signings thread, but there are no restrictions there and I could have easily said I want a forward line of Ibra, Messi and Ronaldo and Thiago Silva with Pique in defence which simply won't happen. I generally am in agreement with your post, most notably about what we need. We have CB's but only one who is reliable in the first team (Thiago Silva). Our midfield needs a player who can sit in front of defence, of which right now only Ambrosini is naturally suited and a creative injection (Montolivo only isn't enough imo). The forward line is arguably the most predictable as well as the least. On paper, our attack is one of the strongest in the world and doesn't need any real changes. In reality, we struggled this season and every one of our forwards seem uncertain about their future at the club. But Allegrie`s word scared me today,as I don`t see neither Monty nor Muntari doing a great job ahead of the defense. For starter, they are different type of players with different characteristics which automatically means they can not be alternative to each other (if we are serious about our intentions to win smth). Monty is Pirlo type of player,Muntari is more of MVbommel type of player(if they are played ahead of defense) I'm sure Allegri's words are based on what we have at the moment and doesn't necessarily reflect our how our mercato will turn out. As for Monty and Muntari as DM in the worst case scenario, I have no doubts Montolivo will play the role (it's something I posted about around February I think). He's a good passer which is vital in that position and spreads the play well. However, what is key is unlike Pirlo he's not likely to be overpowered physically and his tackling and interception statistics are actually better than Van Bommel's (this season). I would raise questions about whether he's got the tactical discipline that MvB had and he obviously isn't an intimidating figure as other options are, but he's not necessarily bad for the position imo. Muntari I see being a utility player who will play the role when Montolivo and Ambro can't, much like this season. He will make up the last part of the new spine for the side. Strootman I think is realistic, he's not that well known nor is he hyped, so his market value isn't too high and we really can't be thinking as though we can't get anyone. My only big purchase (at least imo), is Ganso, who as I said I think might be attainable given his market value drop and Santos' wish to get Binho. RE: Allegri's system next season - Kastriot - 05-15-2012 I think it is really important now that most of the senatori are gone too get back some of them in coaching or other related roles. Maldini and Costacurta are really characters who could keep that winning mentality/atmosphere in MIlanello, don`t you think?? Cuz if you analyse it in our team now only Ambrosini is a Champions League winner. So this DNA stuff it doesn`t apply anymore. To make it worst none of them has some International success with their NT either. So we have bunch of players who are not that young actually and have never felt to be on the top of the world, beside the scudetto last year. So maybe bringing some successful names from the past can match the pedigree of MIlan. RE: Allegri's system next season - ACMILAN1983 - 05-16-2012 I've been wanting some of our legends back in the club for a long time, but for whatever reasons some don't. Maldini in particular I want returning to the club. Shame really, but we can hope for Rino returning in the near future. RE: Allegri's system next season - ACMILAN1983 - 05-16-2012 I popped onto zonalmarking.net and saw there was a report of the derby match recently. The article focuses heavily on Inter, but I couldn't believe the similarities between their formation and the one I wrote out in my first post in this thread. I didn't see the match, so I can't comment on whether Inter played in a way I thought we could play next season, but I did find the similarities quite uncanny. Anyone interested in the article can find it here: http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/05/07/inter-4-2-milan-inter-build-up-play-down-the-left-then-spread-it-to-the-right/ RE: Allegri's system next season - Gabriel426 - 05-16-2012 Pretty interesting topic, but I think I will only comment once the squad is set. To me, I think Allegri got a very modern approach to the game. The exception being Ibra dependent. However, I don't blame Allegri for that due to the lack of offensive talents available to him. I do hope this topic stays alive through the summer as it'll be interesting to see ideas as the mercato progresses. Although admittedly I'm rather depressed about suggesting a formation that was apparently pretty much the same to Inter's.
RE: Allegri's system next season - Kastriot - 05-16-2012 The "beauty" behind Allegrie`s system. Defend and Attack as a unit. If you have a midfield of these players: ---Nocerino----Strootman---Montolivo--- -------------------Boateng------------------- All of the are interchangeable/alternatives/compatible to one another. Everyone at one moment during the game can play in everyones position successfully plus add smth extra to that position. For instance. Monotolivo-Boateng interchange means more creativity up front, and more aggressiveness/directness at the center of the pitch. Nocerino loves to move inside the box at times, Boateng can cover for him at the right of the midfield easily( acutally this year he has played more of a third attacker form the right),that way he can spread the defenses and giving Nocerino extra space in the box. Strootman also loves to get the ball and do the playmaker (Rui Costa style),in this case you have this ----Nocerino----Montolivo---- -Boa------Strootman----Cassano ---------------Ibra--------------- Every coaches dream is to have the option to change tactics inside the game, without making substitution. This all round midfield provides this option. Pirlo was limited tactically and defensively, MVbomel was limited offensively( did he have an assist entire season??). Strootman is both good offensively and tactically/defensively. Not as good as Pirlo and Bommel in their best attributes, but we are craving for a combination of both for years now. And what is the most important, this midfield will push Ibra in the box where he belongs. I know he is great all round player, he has vision and creativity. But when you decide to come outside the box and play a "midfielder" have in mind that the moment you lose a ball you chase it till the end. Ibra comes outside the box becomes a midfielder, gets the ball looks for an open space passes, but loses the ball. And the moment he loses the ball acts like a Striker, stops and looks around (plus starts yelling at other players). When a striker loses a ball there is an entire midfield to cover for him, when you lose a ball ind midfield there are only 3-4 player to cover for you. This is the only thing I have disliked this season from Allgeri. Hope he changes it. You are a forward, stay in the box and make something creative there, where the possibility of scoring is much higher, than the centere of the pitch. |
