“At one point De Ketelaere said ‘I absolutely want to go to Milan.’ Then you are left with a club that has too high expectations because they received a higher offer. I told De Ketelaere ‘If you want to go to Milan, I’m behind you.’ But I also added, ‘Get ready for some rough weeks’.
“After the meeting in Belgium, the clubs no longer wanted to talk to each other. Then we went to Lugano. Two superpowers confronted each other and it became a real battle. The outside world cannot understand how difficult it has been to resolve the situation.”

His agent, Tom De Mul, was a former footballer too; Ajax Academy in Vermaelen's year, played with Zlatan there too.
I remember him from Football Manager 2005, his favourite club in-game was AC Milan

The CDK us in the second half of the season was all wrong. Pioli kept on bringing him in when we desperately needed a goal, but that is NOT the time to bring on a player low on confidence. He also used him together with many other reserves in some games, which is also not the best place to use a low confidence player that need to play into the team.
Early on, when he also had his best performances, he was used together with first team players and got to come on when we were leading.
