I'm personally pretty excited about what Calhanoglu can bring, in terms of quality and ability, you're talking about a player that's going on par with the most technically gifted in the squad (e.g. the likes of Suso and Bonaventura).
He's a decent worker, he doesn't ignore his defensive duties and bear in mind he's 23 and has played at a very good level for a number of years, we're not even talking about the finished article yet.
I've seen comparisons to Honda doing the rounds, which I find a little strange. Calhanoglu's technically a more gifted player than Honda and imo appears quicker in thought both technically and tactically. I say that as someone who kind of defends Honda's time at Milan, feeling he was a good player that was in Milan during a period where the club desperately struggled. It's a period where very few players managed to come through unscathed or increase their profile.
Back to Calhanoglu, as with the other purchases this summer, on his own right now he's not a player to instantly make Milan better and raise the profile of the team. However, he is a very, very good player and is considered one of the best prospects coming through in Europe in the past few years. As with the other signings, what he can't bring on his own, as a collective they should make Milan significantly better in the coming season.
Also, at the end of the mercato someone needs to compile a video of all the triple handshakes this summer

Our only creative and offensive midfielder? I actually want to see him play in the left-center midfield, the position Bonaventura have been playing in for the friendly games but I think Montella want to utilize his skill upfront (more as offensive midfielders who offers assits and goals rather than the creative one that playmaking the game).

Just thought I'd say I'm glad to see Calhanoglu is starting to show his qualities in the side. Coming on against Inter I thought he did great to make his influence be felt and offer an edge to the side previously missing. Then to come on against Fiorentina and get the equaliser (on top of another decent cameo) and here's hoping we're finally starting to see a turnaround in his career at Milan.
It seems Gattuso is trying to work to help individuals in the squad play to their ability and having seen improvements in Kessie, Bonucci, Cutrone and Montolivo, it seems he's trying to get more out of Calhanoglu.

Çalhanoglu was one of the players involved. UEFA said Saturday they would examine reports that Turkey's national footballers gave a military salute in support of Ankara's armed offensive against Kurds in Syria. Head of UEFA press office Philip Townsend to ANSA: “I have not seen the [Turkey players] gesture which could seem a provocation. Rules forbid political and religious references. I guarantee you that we will examine the situation.”
Hakan and the other players may serve a ban for the "gesture" salute they made.

His contract is emerging as an issue now, he is a Bosman in summer 2021 and his current salary is 2.5million.
The very minimum next salary is 3.5million and don't be surprised if he asks for 5 or 6.
