We were never going to hold on to ELS no matter what, we understand.
But selling him for 20million? To Monaco who played us just two weeks earlier, and stuck it up our asses with our direct rival?
Hell, Baldy negotiates for players for days, weeks... But when he sells, he sells quick and cheap?
He failed with this one.
I won't be too surprised if DES is next in line... Probably for 8million..
Or maybe give him to PSG so we can get Ibra
But then again... Something doesn't make sense...
I mean, what happened to ELS' pictures with Miha? All the friendly talk? His agent/brother denying that ELS is thinking about leaving... Both Galliani and Berlu declaring he's indispensable?
Also he only juat today returned to Milan... Nothing indicating that there any talks about him..
I mean, really... Whats going on?

We hung on to Pato longer than we are with El Shaarawy, both joined us around same age too. Selling him makes little sense.

Ace, there is no way SES could cost more. He's scored 4 goals in 2 and a half years. Even what we are getting is a lot considering his development. I'm not saying I'm for selling him, just discussing the price.
His development was such, that as an attacking player, his biggest assets became his hard work and defending. Depending on how you look at it, it can be both good and bad.

Yeah. I am really sad to see him go, but it might actually be the best solution for both the club and the player. Obviously we don't have an infinite amount of money to spend even with Fininvest giving Galliani a big transfer budget this summer, and we need solid reinforcements in both midfield and attack. Then El Shaarawy doesn't really fit in a 4-3-1-2 system, even if Mihajlovic's plan to play him in midfield was interesting, and he will probably benefit from the change of scenery too.

He's also been injured a lot in the last couple of years, which I think is a big factor in all of this too. His growth as a player has more or less stopped, which sucks, because a lot of it has to do with bad luck. To me he doesn't seem like he's a better player now than he was in 2012/13, and that is most likely why we've decided to let him go. He was about to become another Pato story.
As I said in my previous post, I am sad to see him go. I really like El Shaarawy as a player, and he worked his ass off for the team, but at the end of the day, it's probably the best solution for both him and Milan.

As much as I do to promote El Shaarawy, and as much as I love the kid, I think there are viable reasons behind all of it.
First off, SES has been dealing with niggling injuries for the better part of two years, and even if he does score the occasional goal, it hasn't been with enough consistency to help us make a run. There could be issues that we don't know about, like how Sheva and Kaka suddenly became so injury-prone after leaving us. This could be something that both parties decided would be best for the player (to play in a less competitive environment) and the club (to release an injury prone player).
Secondly, SES despite being young and fast, really hasn't exactly been lighting the league up, even in the period when he was healthy. If you recall our previous squads (with the Oddo's, the Jankulovski's, the Boatengs) you'll notice a pattern ever since Per Messerman and his medical staff left: our players play at a high level for a couple of years, and then tend to burn out extremely fast. It may not be as noticeable on the younger, faster players or the old legends (ala Zambrotta, Gattuso, Ambrosini, Inzaghi) who actually knew the proper way to condition themselves in the long run, but for most players who have come into our team in the past 6-7 years, you do tend to notice that they play well (or even above their expected levels) for a couple of years, and then end up completely dropping off. The situation may be similar with SES, and Miha has noticed it already. The lad may already be on the decline (which is actually better than Pato if you ask me). The fact is, our medical staff need a revamp as well, not just the players.
Third, as mentioned by some of you, in a 4-3-1-2 system, SES as a winger who flies on the very edge of the pitch, would mess up the balance of the team when going forward and back. His characteristics somewhat limit the roles that he can play, and if he or his entourage feel that he won't be able to adapt to the position that Miha is setting for him, then that may also be another reason why they want him to leave.
As for whether we need reinforcements in attack, I seriously have my doubts. We have 9+ attackers on our books right now, and if Luiz Adriano is taking SES's place, we what we really need is to balance the team out with Midfielders and a CB (or two) of better than good quality.

With rgds to SES, I dont understand why we need to offload him while we have few others 'useless' players to let go. Sure he has not been playing a lot last season due to injuries, therefore, perhaps his development had been very much affected, but I say lets see this season, he's 22? and we do not have luxuries of other teams where they have solid backups/replacements. Who else do we have? Cerci? If mgt sees this is the best for both, and we sign someone to replace him/for the team, all the best to him then..[emoji17]

Looking at some of the businesses we have done this summer, and it's pretty clear that we are in house cleaning mode too. Players like Muntari and Bonera would have never been allowed to leave given their relationship with management, and both are now gone. Even Mexes needed Berlusconi's direct interference to get a one year deal at over 60% pay cut to stay. This makes me think that all those other useless players are most likely going to be shown the door as well soon. Since they have contract with us, it is not as easy as the free agents, but I honestly do not see many of them staying at all.
Part of the reason I think ELS is being sold right now is the Pato case. If we all remember, we kept Pato one year too long and his price fell from 40M to 15M. A year can really make a huge difference in a young player's career. The year before, Pato was an ultra talented striker who has had a few injuries. A year later, he was a talented striker who couldn't stay off of the trainer's table. As Bill Belichick say "I would rather get rid of a player one year too soon than one year too late". I wonder if the doctors have determined if ELS's injury problems are recurring and cannot be fully recovered from, and that's what drove the sell. If you would notice, Niang is still here and even got an extension. We could have easily sold him for some cash and we decided to keep him.

2million for a 1 year loan, with obligation to buy if ELS plays more than 15 matches.
Price for sale set at 15Million.

Well I guess 18mil was too good to be true. In any case, if this is true, it means that he wasn't sold to raise funds.....but because everyone involved (including SES) decided that it's best if he moved on.
