In reality, he's "an ok" player. I can't say i feel a "sense of security" with him playing, but to your point, he's not that bad. In any ideal world, he'd be our rotation RB. But we are not handicapped when he's on the field either. And lastly, he's not been our worst player by any means.
Put it this way, as things stand, I'd go looking for a CM and a CF before spending anymore money on another RB. Even a backup LB and another winger is probably higher on the list of priorities than replacing Emerson.

Yea you're right he's not fantastic by any means... When I say security like he just puts in a decent shift he doesn't make bags of errors or completely useless either. Does what he needs to and nothing more.
We have always had such lackluster fullback pairings over the years. We've always had one strong side and one terrible. Remember Antonini when Abate was actually playing well? MESBAH, Kevin Constant?

The funny part is, historically it's always been more difficult to find a quality LB. Now we have one of the best in the world but we can't get a great RB haha.

I'm glad we are having this conversation [emoji1]

A lot of times I hesitate to say anything good about Emerson, for fear of being attacked by Milan fans (not necessarily in this forum). There's this general consensus that he can't, and is not, capable of doing anything resembling "good". He's the player that needs to have a display 10 times better than the other players before he gets praised, and on the other hand every single wrong play from him gets amplified 10 times, in comparison to the other players.

He's not special, we could have done better than him. But, c'mon, he's not doing badly. He's been more than okay.

RE: Winter Mercato - 2025 - Sampinjon - 01-09-2025

I guess it's all about standards and ambition. There are fans who thinks Milan is "doing ok" fighting for CL. For team which have ambition to fight 4-6th spot battle he's indeed doing more than ok.

That depends how "big fish" you are. You can't take almost 5 millions of salary and do "just ok". Sorry, but not enough, for that money you will have to provide more than that.
Take Tammy as example, as well. He's our 4th most payed player. So, if for him is "reasonable" to be 4th most payed player, than it is not "unreasonable" for fans to expect him to be 4th best player on the filed, no? Florenzi, Chuku, RLC all 5+M, but where are they on the field? Are they justifying that money?
Than look at Pavlovic who earns "only" 3M or Reijnders 2M. Or Thiaw with 1M. Of course they're going to be "less susceptible" to critics than Royal.
If you think your "work on the field" is worth 5M, than justify that. You can't expect to be treated same way as those who "value" their work 2 or 3M. Or expect fans to be happy with your "just ok" for that cash.
If you go to a restaurant and pay 500$ for a meal, you don't expect cesspools on the plate. You have right to raise your voice if service is low. But if you go to a place where meal is 1$, than it is not same story, isn't it?

RE: Winter Mercato - 2025 - Santino - 01-09-2025

Very good post.
We have so many players on big salaries that makes almost zero for this team. Like Tomori, RLC, Chuck, Jovic, Benna, Okafor, Florenzi, Morata...

RE: Winter Mercato - 2025 - Zio Fester - 01-09-2025

Repubblica: Milan set to abandon San Donato project despite €55m investment.

So new stadium after all?

RE: Winter Mercato - 2025 - Sampinjon - 01-09-2025

Morata 8,3M
Bennacer 7M (not entirely his fault due to injuries, but should earn much less)
Abraham 5,8M
Florenzi 5,5M
RLC 5,1M
Chuku 5,1M
Royal 4,7M
That's 41,5M (much more when you add taxes) per year for nothing.
Others are below 3,5M.... so, let's say they're, more or less, "playing for peanuts".
Does any of these folks deserves that money? Are their performances equal to what you expect from someone who's payed 8M? 5M? Is Royal's "ok" on the field worth 4,7M? Is Morata's work on the field worth 8,3M?
They know how to have "I'm big shot from big league from helluva club" attitude when it comes to demanding $$, but utter garbage when they're on the field? So yeah, we are going to "shit" (demand more from them) on those guys more than on others.

Tomori with 4,5M - not sure where to put him...

RE: Winter Mercato - 2025 - Beppe - 01-09-2025

Okafor almost gone it seems. Loan with option for 14m. To Leipzich.
So that frees up a spot for rashford.

Okafor aint a bad player, but many injury problems, he seems injured for almost 50% of the time. So if we can upgrade him with someone more available that would be a big improvement

RE: Winter Mercato - 2025 - Zio Fester - 01-09-2025

Doubt Leipzig will buy him unless he really explodes. They get a player for free for 6 months and will return him in the summer.

Another management masterclass.

You have a very valid point here on all the other players, but when you realize what players get paid these days 4.6m to royal isn't so bad. I think the state of inflation in players both salaries + transfer value is absurd. Besides that, look at any right back out there that we could consider an improvement over Emerson. Carvajal gets paid 10m per season, double the salary. Kyle Walker 9m, Hakimi 14.5m, Di Lorenzo 5.5m, Dumfries 5m etc etc.

The fact is it's going rate for a RB capable of putting in a shift these days. Even Sergino Dest is on close to 5m per season. The top are being paid close to 10m and up per season.

In terms of looking at Reijnders and Thiaws salary, there's no point in looking at 'value' vs what they contribute at this moment because if they aren't renewed ASAP they will leave and be paid far more. They're on the salary that we signed them on as prospects. To be fair, our wage bill is comparatively low for the quality we have in general vs other clubs but it's not sustainable. Our bigger names are coming due for renewal as are our young talent like Thiaw, Reijnders and this is where we decipher whether we'll be a farm team or a competitive team. We need to renew our assets and not sell every year when it comes time to pay them their worth.

So on Emerson, I think he's in and around value. BUT Morata, RLC, Bennacer and Florenzi are just outrageous terrible business. Morata on 8m is an absolute joke.
