RE: Winter Mercato 11'/12' - Hitman - 12-25-2011

El Fre, great movie I enjoyed it too. And about the schedule, I rather have our first half of the season be hard as hell, and an easy ride through out March/April. Juve will have an easy sched at the beginning, but then the hard games will come in.

I really think Juve will begin to fall sooner or later. I dont think their team is good enough and they have been riding their luck for quite a while now. Just as Buffon said, qualifying for the CL should be their top goal. I also do not expect Udinese to stay in the top 3 by February, I'm hoping Napoli would come in to the top spots. From experience though, teams that come into the CL for the first time in a while in Italy tend to forget about Serie A and mess up - it even happened to Napoli when they played in the Intertoto a few years ago. I have a feeling Napoli might not make the top 3 list unfortunately, and Inter shouldnt be ruled out just yet out of the scudetto race. They also have been lucky with a few results, and with 2-3 good January signings they could compete again... if they dont buy anyone, there's no way they'll come into the top 3 in my opinion.

As of today, my prediction for the end of the season:

1. Milan
2. Napoli
3. Juventus
4. Roma
5. Inter
6. Udinese

January transfer window will be vital for Napoli, Juve, Roma and Inter I think. Napoli and Juve have already said they wont enforce further to what they already bought/have, when I think they both need quality on their bench. I think if Roma buy 1-2 WC players, they can make that step up. They have begun to play some nice football in the last two games. The winter break will only make them better.

and Milan's January market...

1) Tevez. well I'd love to get Carlitos and at the moment everything points to us waiting and getting every penny until we sign him on Jan 31st. If we dont get him we will get Lopez for sure.
2) Striker in means that we will say good bye to our legendary Pippo Inzaghi. Very sad news IMO. It could also mean El Shaarawy will be sent on loan somewhere.
3) Montolivo. Going to be free in the summer. Should we spend 3-4 and get him in January? I dont know. We do need a midfielder in case Aquilani/Nocerino get injured, but we have Rino and Flamini coming back. We will need one creative midfielder though, so Monto could be a welcome addition.
4) De Rossi. Very unlikely, but he will be free in the summer and my bet is - he already knows where he's going to be in the summer. He's just waiting it out to see how Roma perform and do in the January window and then make up his mind. It really depends on Roma's ambition I think. He wants to win the CL and if he feels Roma can do it, he will stay. Milan do definitely need a replacement for Ambrosini/MvB this January if we want to win the CL this year. If we want to sign DDR this summer, it will cost us 8-10m. Despite how badly we need him now, I think Galliani can use 8-10m to buy us 2 other great players - so I'd rather wait for him for free.
5) Didac Vila. Braida's gone to see two of us his games in last 2 months. Milan are obviously not happy with Taiwo and we just may see us bring him back in. However, I dont know if its a good idea after Allegri showed us last year he doesn't trust Vila.
6) Merkel. We could get Merkel back and it would be a fantastic deal for us. He can be our vice Aquilani and we would not need to sign Montolivo this January and instead save 3-4m and get him for free in the summer. Merkel deal makes the most sense to me, but I just hope our stubborn coach plays him.
7) Ganso. If we don't go for Tevez, we will still have a Non-EU spot available. Milan are too smart to ignore it and let it go. We will definitely invest into a Brazilian and most likely it will be Ganso - who IMO - is a fantastic player and will take Milan one step higher. I believe in the kid and I think he is worth 18m euro. Ozil can be an alternative if we are to believe the rumors.

RE: Winter Mercato 11'/12' - el fre - 12-25-2011

Great analysis, Hitman.

I also hope Juve falls, but given their hunger for success, and the fact they do not play in Europe, means they have all the time to concentrate on Serie A.

Also, they do have a harder schedule later in the season, but they have a more balanced schedule, unlike us.

I didn't know De Rossi is free in the summer. He should be our top priority come summer. That means we can give 20 mil. for Tevez and get De Rossi for free.
Montolivo also for free and we're set. Just release the senators (ambro, seedorf, MVB, gattso)

RE: Winter Mercato 11'/12' - ElMago99 - 12-25-2011

@ Hitman

Agree with most of what you say but Napoli's De Laurentiis never said he wouldn't add to his squad. In fact, he just bought Eduardo Vargas, the Chilean Striker, and he said he knows he needs a bigger squad to compete on all fronts. However, they need to build slowly. If they bring in 1 or 2 super stars, the wages will be unbalanced.

As for Juventus, they're a lot better than last few years, and despite the fact they need 1 or 2 Super Stars (still), they are quite a large squad and very fit, focusing only on Serie A. Therefore, I don't see them going anywhere. Napoli is in troube due to their small size of squad and competing also in UCL could spell trouble.

I don't count Inter out of a Champions League spot and Lazio, Udinese & Roma all look strong enough to take the spot. These past few years it seems B&G are just doing enough to be the best in Italy (which is not much), but I'm way happier with the team now than obviously 2 or 3 years ago.

We all seem to agree though, that 2-3 midfielders can literally put us back in the hunt for CL trophy's. I've gone over extensively who they should be, but getting them will probably prove more difficult than we think...
