I'm not as drastic as Hitman with regards to my opinion on Pato. I do agree that he has not performed as consistently and to the heights as expected but I don't think he should be sold. We have a lot to work on before we sell one of our star players. We should do a Messi with him and build the team around him, change his diet and all that to make sure he doesn't get injured as often etc. I don't know when last I've seen Messi miss more than one game..and this is the same Messi who could hardly finish a season without ending up on the treatment table.
Bottom line: I have plenty faith in Pato. He has to be used as a CF, where he is close to goal and can use his lethal finishing ability and dribbling skills to good use. The further he is from goal, the more he has to think and sadly I don't think that's his forté. Besides Ibra, I think he's our next most clinical striker and I think we should make good use of this.
Also, I just bought a Pato jersey last season so he better not be going anywhere anytime soon

Pato's biggest issue is his injury problems, because this hampers his development. He can't consistently play at full match intensity and everytime he starts to pick up there's always the fear he'll get injured again (I'm sure this is the case even in his mindset).
On top of this add the tactical changes I mentioned in my last post and the off field problems he's faced (e.g. divorce), and there are numerous reasons he's not quite the same person we bought.
Personally, I think as Mystik said, let's get him on a set program like Barca did Messi and see how that progresses.

you guys do realize this season could be the last where we could get a nice 40m deal on him right? After this year FFP will kick in, teams will not spend like crazy meaning that we wont be able to sell for high prices as well.
Think of it this way - Pato or 40m cash (that theoretically will be all spent on the team).
One can only wonder how long Pato will take to get into such a program and reach Messi's level physically and not to mention technically. It's not only his injuries but his mentality for me as well is really poor. If somehow Pato returned to his old form with us, I'd love to keep him, but if he does not manage to be consistent enough with very good performances... It'd be wiser to replace him with someone who looks more of a guarantee - Neymar.
Plus - MilanLab is a joke these days...I wouldn't trust them setting a program for Pato. Milanlab's programs are destroying our players with all their injuries.

If you read the news lately - FFP isn't going to kick in. They haven't found a way to implement it.

This is a really well written article about Ibra, but I think parrallels can be drawn with Pato at this current point. What Capello did with Ibra was to re-educate his way of playing football. No longer was his game about moments of individual skill and a technical game, but rather he was much more driven about finding the end result. Juve never really saw the result of Capello's work, but it was very much evident in Inter until now.
I think we're seeing Pato going through a similar phase. Until now he's always played as a wide forward or with freedom to move around the pitch, but rarely has he played as an out and out forward. Allegri's pushed him up front to lead the line and seems to give regular advice on how to play the role (based on comments by Allegri and Pato). However, it's up to Pato to find his way in the system and become a greater player.
I agree with hitman on one thing about Pato, I'd like to see him move more with more energy and drive, but I'm willing to wait a while when he returns to match sharpness.

The thing with Pato is that he really does not know how to play with another striker on a consistent basis. But more importantly, it is his constant injuries that is bothering me the most. What scary is that his injuries were pretty much all over the place instead of one area, which would means that once he gets older, he will probably be more injury prone than now.

Thanks for the article, Dev. I have heard about the story between Capello and Ibrahimovic before. Hopefully something can indeed work out. It would be a shame if Milan can not take advantage of Pato's immense talent.

No worries. Yeah, it's a pretty well known story that Capello made Ibra watch videos of Van Basten to learn, but it just seemed interesting to me how Ibra had to change in his early 20's to how Pato is going through an important phase now.
I watched Pele Eterno (aka Pele Forever) earlier today and I must say Pato should definitely watch his videos, there really is a lot to learn.

I beg your pardon for having no patience to read all posts should my opinion dublicates.
Pato's build is significantly different from when he joined, added 7cm and 20+kg, he needs to learn to master this body. He used his old instinct but flexibility and agility are no longer his best friends, I don't know if it caused his injuries, but it confuses his play. Barbara shows up, smoothing out the process of adapting, that's where patience is needed. I guess after Ronaldo's post Inter form Milan won't sell Pato so soon.
If Tevez arrives, I worry for Binho more, unless one of them can rotate with Aquilani.
