I was quite surprised by the result, because I heard Cassano went in and some neighbors shouting like mad, so in half asleep mode I thought Italy scored
It is a pity not seeing how brilliant the Costa Rican were.

Eh, no; head to head counts here, right? So even if Costa Rica lost to England (6 points) and Uruguay and Italy don't draw (the winner will have 6 points) Costa Rica will still win head to head because they already won against both of them.

No, goal differential comes first. If that's equal, then it's head to head. If Italy wins and Costa Rica loses...and Italy has better goal differential then Italy will be first.

Which means Italy has to win 4-0 and Costa Rica to lose 3-0. I doubt that. Its a great result for Argentina, because now Italy/Uruguay will be in the upper half of draw against Brazil, Germany

You are forgetting to subtract the goals they concede Zeekay. :-)
If Italy wins 4-0 and Costa Rica loses 3-0, the Italy will be at +4 and Costa Rica at 0.
So all that needs to happen is for Italy to win by 2 and Costa Rica to lose by 2.

3rd round matches will play at noon, so I don't think Italy chance is better and England can do something.
