I thought Seedorf was fine. I did think that Robinho was disappointing in the first half and Aquilani was horrible thoroughout the game, and already voiced my grump in the game thread. Big Grin

I didn't try to crucify Pato if you read my posts carefully. It is frustrating, but I still feel that it is not all Pato's fault, and believe that Allegri should do something to utilize his tremendous talent. If that fails, we should still try to keep him in the squad if we can afford to do so financially.

Relax, my friend. Devilol

Alright, my bad regarding Binho. Big Grin I meant he wasn't that good while he played (even in the first half). Though Cassano seemed to be our "most in-form attacker" lately.

My solution for Pato problem - play him as CF (his most effective position) and watch the goals rolling in. (I would play Ibra in a sort of a trequartista position behind Pato). He scores a lot in that position against everyone, including Barca (first leg). Devilcool

I agree. That's part of my proposal that we need a new system in which Pato could feel the most comfortable and do what he is best - scoring. But for that, we still need a few great passers to feed him. Ibrahimovic can certainly play that role, but I am not sure that he will be happy to play second fiddle (after all, scoring is a glorious thing. Big Grin) and Pato needs to "earn" that status, and certainly needs to work hard to convince Allegri that he deserves all these major changes involved.

when is this guy going to pick up.... we bought him for 20m as 17 yr old.... he's 22 and still hasn't shown the performances we are expecting of him (performances that can win games on his own)... he has an impressive goal scoring ratio, but so did Bojan.....

he needs to get his read right because everyone knows that he is capable of it... all he needs to do is watch videos of himself at milan in his first year.... he was amazing.... if he doesn't play that great this year, i think it's finally time to cash in.... Tevez is a fantastic option that we should not let pass by..

RE: pato - fLame - 11-29-2011

Yeah, except if you read the last match thread, you were the only one who didn't like his performance.

I do think you're too critical of Pato. At 22, he's been scoring goals at a level comparable to Ibra and he's been key for us in many games. I do want him to get to the next level, but I think there are multiple factors that until now have prevented this.

First and foremost, his problems with injuries have decimated his development in recent years. Everytime he looks like he could be returning to his devastating best, he gets another muscle pull.

Also, it's important that we understand his development in Italy hasn't been as simple as one might hope. He started with the freedom to play as he wanted in the early times and then moved to the wing. Now he's being asked to perform a completely different role as a central striker and again is having to learn a new tactical role. This in addition to his injuries and playing under 3 managers in 4 years makes his development more difficult.

This is different to others like Messi or Neymar, as Messi has learnt his football in the Barca system and has been developed with a set way of playing. He's had to change roles, but the side he plays in always follows the same philosophy (with the same players). Neymar is a lot like Pato in his early days. He plays with freedom on the left and is left to play without tactical limits. It's positive as he's allowed to use his skills as he always has, but this will be a problem he faces when coming to Europe.

^ This. Before his latest injury, Pato has been hitting some fine form and has been playing really really well.

Also, agree completely regarding Neymar. I think roughly speaking Neymar and Pato are very similar players. Neymar is the star of Santos and can play whichever way he wants. Neymar loses many balls in unsuccessful dribbles but noone criticizes him for that. If / when he comes to Europe, he will have to work very hard to adapt, just like Pato.

RE: pato - Hitman - 11-30-2011

Pato was that same star for Internacionale and he was the one who used to carry the team at only 17 years of age. That Pato is not Pato we have today at Milan - that's for sure. He's terribly regressed - for one reason or another.

You can blame it on his coach, his injuries, his teams, his luck but truth is he isn't performing and he's not worth the 20m price tag plus the the 2m (if not more) wages he's earning. The money we could earn from his sale can be used to buy three world-class players or at least two that can offer an immediate impact (TEVEZ).

And no fLame, I am not the only one who thought he played bad. Every dribble failed, his decision making is really bad. He won a penalty and scored a tap-in - is that really so great? But I can't but support the kid and wish for the best. I used to love him in his first and second seasons, however these terrible performances and attitude is just sickening that I have grown to like him less. As I keep repeatedly saying, I believe he has the potential to be devastating...but thats what everyone's thought since he was 17 - thats why we bought him for 20m. He performed like expected first two seasons, but hasn't been able to do the same anymore.

I dont think it's the injuries, it's his attitude and decisions during the game. He wastes sooo many chances every game due to silly decisions and he has no confidence when he plays. How much longer can we wait for him? I really question whether you want Milan's best interest when you want him to start or whether you want Pato's best interest. I dont know man, to me it is very clear and very obvious (and hence why all other non-Milanistas agree) that he is terrible with consistency and can hardly carry Milan when we need him.

We already have Robinho and Cassano to be our third and fourth strikers, now we need a starter. Pato is not yet ready, and who knows if he will be any time soon, but he is the most prized asset we have and he can earn us a great amount of cash that can be invested wisely in other parts of our team.

If Pato would be sold, we can probably get 40m for him. That money can get us Schweinsteiger + a great WC LB, or even Ganso and a striker. Think of it wisely without any bias.

RE: pato - reza - 11-30-2011

The question should not be his talent or abilities, it should be how long we get to see it. He is just about at the point of being officially injury prone.
With or without him we have many needs so I think management logic will dictate that any money we get from him is used to fill back his position not a LB, mid or whatever.

What about Sell Pato(40m) & Robinho(20m),

Buy Neymar & Tevez.

Ibra, Tevez, Cassano, Neymar. Very likely Neymar could be over 40M already, and not interested in coming to Italy, so it seems.

Also, this idea we can buy Schweini at will is not true. He's an icon in Bayern. Regarding Ganso, if you want him to replace Pato, that's silly. This guy has had MORE serious injuries than Pato, and just as often.

RE: pato - drucurl - 11-30-2011

the Pato hate is hillarious!!!

Pato is 22 and already a very high profile player in Europe.....so much so that impatient Milanistas (read n00bz) think he's past it and regressing!!!DodgyDodgyDodgy Meanwhile they're drooling over unproven Damiao and Cavani...BOTH older and in Damiao's case unproven in Europe. That's right give some of these knee-jerkoffs and they'll replace the guy that scored vs Real, Bartha, Jube and Printer for a guy just starting to shine (Damiao) or a guy nearing his full potential (Cavani).

Yes he is injury prone atm but so was Messi not too long ago...at roughly the same age....imagine Bartha sold him and he bloomed into the player he is now!!

It's frustrating to see him go back and forth, progress then regress but I have faith the duck will come good Smile
