Maignan is a very astute signing.
He is seen as potential #1 for the NT once Lloris, Mandana are retired. He is probably already pushing for that spot now.

I'm seeing speculation that this could save us some €40M in total over the next years due to Maignan's lower salary and the club not having to pay Raiola a massive commission. That's more than Tonali's entire transfer fee and €12M more than we're paying for Tomori. And to be fair Maignan is said to be a very good goalkeeper as well.
At any rate, I respect the club's choice here. This is basically Milan saying it won't be bullied by a player and his agent. Because honestly, if Donnarumma had signed we would have been back here again in 4 years with even bigger demands from Raiola. If it had been a 2-year contract it probably would have been even worse. And this whole contract saga has not in any way helped the team, but has rather been very disruptive at the most crucial stage of the season. I think Maldini and the others also realised the fans had had enough now.
And finally, this club needs players who are 100% committed for the long term. Donnarumma wasn't.

Particularly liked this part where he talked about training with Ibra at PSG:
"He (Ibra) was practising shooting and the ball was going past me at 400km an hour! Gianluigi Buffon, Julio Cesar, these guys wouldn't have stopped those shots. He told me: 'You're a s*** goalkeeper.' For me, that wasn't right. The next time, he came back but I stopped his shot. I had to respond: 'You're a s*** attacker.' He just looked at me and didn't say anything. Back in the changing room, he stopped me. He told me that it's good, that he liked what I did and that he liked my personality. I loved him before but it made me like him even more."

Wow, that was lightning fast. The only downside is spending 15mil of our limited budget on a goalkeeper but it is what it is.
Donnarumma is finally gone and I say good riddance

We're also saving €5M per year compared to Donnarumma plus the €20M that would have gone to Raiola, so there is that

Yea. Extending Donnarumma would have cost us more in this 1st year alone. So actually, this move likely frees up some previously tied up money.

Yeah, we have to strengthen the squad to be able to manage both the CL and Serie A next season, so if this saved us money that we can spend on someone like Vlahovic, then I'm all for it.
