Costa Rica just won the group. Uraguay and Italy will fight each other for the second spot. England can still play for honor. :d Poor England hoped for Italy to save their ass, but Italy could not save their own.

Disappointed by Prandelli for once : why using the slowest three midfielders of his roster together ?!
In such a game with such a hot weather, he should have sent younger players around Pirlo ...
Candreva was just the usual Candreva : after one good game (even if I didn't think he was outstanding against England, far from that), he was a ghost today. Abate just showed why Darmian played despite the injury of DS in the first game.
Now, I just hope Prandelli will put both DS and Darmian together, will use again Verrati, and will try to do something forward because today, they couldn't have scored against a Serie B team ... No more Cassano please !! And Insigne, stop diving !!

Italy looked bad. They were slow, sloppy, looked exhausted, moved the ball slow, were static, tons of terrible simple passes and touches. They looked like amateurs. Costa Rica did well to suffocate everything through the middle of the field, but quite frankly, Italy was so bad that it didn't take much. The fullbacks never got IMO good attacking positions so there was absolutely no width in the first half.
Then, when Insigne and Cerci went on....since they both like to cut inside, I thought the fullbacks were going to be instructed to overlap them and get into good crossing situations effectively doubling up on the wings. Instead, it never happened.
Balotelli didn't get a single clean touch on the ball in the second half. Cassano was dreadful. For every good touch he took, he took another 3 terrible ones. Candreva was a disaster.
It'll be tough for them against a reborn Uruguay. The biggest concern for Italy has to be how sloppy they looked. It looked like their players were carrying 10kg weights in their shoes. I don't know if it was the weather, or they've done some heavy physical work...but it did not look good. Good part is, they only need a draw.

I think Italy subconsciously underestimated Costa Rica. Nobody seemed to turn up to play today. Touches were sloppy, passes were off the mark, finishing wasn't up to par. The offsides pissed me off the most though. How in heavens name does Cerci manage to find himself offside so much when he's looking across at the line the entire time!!
The subs themselves weren't bad but you can't control Insigne, Cassano and Cerci ALL having bad games at the same time. The starting midfield of Motta, DDR, Pirlo wasn't going to create jack all so I hope Verratti's flu symptoms were actually serious enough to warrant him spending the whole game on the bench. Darmian needs to go back to RB and bring in De Sciglio at LB. Chiellini was absolute dogshit today and last game but Italy doesn't have much better ATM.
Italy need to play MUCH better to even get a draw against this Suarez-inspired Uruguay side.
