As for no big teams want him. He just turned 19 not 27. Pippo never played for a BiG team till Juve at 24 and even then I doubt a lot of big teams want him. Yet he somehow managed to be the 2nd highest scorer in CL history.
Drogba moved to Marseille at the age of 25, and don't think he was wanted by BIG teams before that.
Cavani was a nobody when he was 19, he only became wanted By BIG teams in Napoli at age 24.
Eto was unwanted by Real who signed him at 16 and loaned him out pretty much for the next few yrs. he finally found a home at Mallorca, and even at one point was begging to come to Milan. He was 23 when he moved to Barca.

Torres, Saviola, Rooney, Babel, Robinho, and kluivert were all wanted by BIG teams and even played for BIG teams at late teens and early 20s, they were among the top of strikers in their generations and yet when they all hit mid 20s, they all pretty much become middle of the pack.

Now I am not saying Niang will turn into an unstoppable force, but to write someone off at 19 with great physique and great speed is a bit much.

Think you need to read thread properly before commenting. I said his stats are rubbish + skill set (decision making/finishing) equally bad. I also said he hasn't improved in 2 years which he hasn't. How do you know big teams didn't want Inzaghi, Drogba, Cavani? It's not like you've followed their careers from day one. Difference between those guys and Niang is they put up solid numbers at same age. They were also from an era where youth didn't get a chance. Do you really think we'd buy Niang when Inzaghi, Drogba were young? No back then Serie A was thriving with less emphasis on youth.

You continue to mention other players of his age, and I keep giving you reasons why development differs and others at 19 doing so great doesn't have to mean that they'll be better then Niang, and vice versa. You asked for players that had difficulty scoring at young age and then went on to be class scorers and I gave you that. Then you found something else wrong with that and came up with where they played. How Serie A was better, and "at least they scored goals"???? COME ON, what's next as Gabriel said?! Well Niang also scored 4 goals last season on loan, so there, he fits that criteria too I guess. At least he scored a few...
I basically proved to you that it's impossible to come up with a player's "ceiling" at 19 (a visibly talented player that is) by naming a ton of players whose ceilings were thought to be low yet look what happened. Gabriel came up with a few more great examples too.

In any case, it looks like we are not going to agree, so let's just agree to disagree and see what happens. I don't know if Niang will end up like Drogba or Henry or Sheva....but I have seen that he is very talented and that he shouldn't be written off at his age. At the end of it all, he's a Milan player now so it's beneficial to all of us that he actually performs well and I'm hoping that he does so.

Sorry you're still not getting it and haven't proven a thing. None of the players you listed had 'difficulty' scoring. They also played for weaker teams in a stronger league back then. Playing for Milan nowadays is easier than starting at Torino 20 years ago! Re Niang's goals last season, IIRC 2 maybe 3 were penalties! Anyway, as you suggested let's just leave it. I think Niang's average and will never amount to anything special. He's going to be 20 in 3 months and there's plenty of better prospects around.

None of them had difficulty scoring? Di natale scored 6 goals in 33 games at Niang's age over multiple seasons. If that's not difficulty scoring then I don't know what is. Henry only scored 3 in his time at Juventus and he was 21 years old. People wrote him off as not good enough.
You keep adding things to your criteria. Weak teams, strong leagues, etc. Was Juventus a weak team in a strong league?

Anyway, I can definitely see where you are coming from and how that makes sense. I just don't agree with it right now. In the end you might be right, or I might be right. Or maybe neither one of us will be. It's the beauty of this sport. Let's move on...thanks for joining the forum and bringing up some good discussions!

OK glad you're finally seeing the light Okmilan I'll just say Henry was played out of position as winger at Juve. He's made his name as CF so would've scored more goals there. Although Juve were strong, Serie A was much tougher then than it is now. Like I said, it's not just Niang's stats but his skillset which dissappoints. I've honestly seen zero improvement in his finishing/decision making/passing these past couple years. Usually players don't significantly improve these attributes over time e.g. Muntari/Boateng are still horribly inconsistent passers/shooters now.

RE: Winter mercato January 2015 - nefremo - 09-17-2014

I'm sorry, but there is tons of examples where players improved those attributes over time. Niang was played as a winger too for a ton of thise 33 games that you keep referring to. Of course, you use the Henry example to undermine it but you look through the Di Natale one and they ones that were listed before by both myself and Gabriel.

We are beating the dead horse here. I feel like whatever I say you won't even slightly entertain the possibility if it.

Let's move on...

RE: Winter mercato January 2015 - Jokka - 09-17-2014

Di Natale was never considered a champion and Italian league was tougher back then. Also, he doesn't have Niang's physicality so harder to score. Anyway, let's move on.
